This hotel is a quiet revolution in Spain and only now is it spreading beyond the country’s borders. The chef Joaquín Koerper has brought his talents and two Michelin stars (awarded for his Moraira restaurant) to the hotel in the form of his new restaurant, La Gigantea, whilst the remodelling of this Modernist structure from the 1920s has been overseen by Ángel García Puertas.

The hotel is set 20km back from the coast at the level of Tarragona so whilst there are beach-style things to do in the area we think this hotel would be the perfect match for someone who deserves a bit of a treat and a great deal of pampering. It is quite possibly one of the finest places to eat in Spain today and if you can’t quite manage the budgets associated with the two Royal Suites and their private swimming pools, be assured that all of the other rooms are absolutely top of the class when it comes to comfort and design.

The latter is an integral part of what the Mas Passamaner is all about – rooms are named after the most important Catalan modernist architects of the early 20th century who revolutionized design not just in their region but made developments that caught on in the world at large. So while this hotel is at the cutting edge of invention and interior architecture it is far from being a sterile environment; the sensual touch appears not only in the cuisine but also in the extensive spa and relaxation centre where scrub massages come in either a wine or chocolate flavour.

If you really do want to indulge this is probably the place to do it. Come for a weekend and leave the world behind whilst you get on with living; take a milk bath, treat yourself to some wonderful, wonderful food, sleep in pure, soft luxury.
