Not many accommodations can boast a river running through its estate, but then not many places can offer what the Casa Rural Torre do Rio can offer - a 10,000 m² area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (that’s an official title granted to the area, by the way) where the Umia river flows through the gardens of the house at a magically soothing speed and sound.

It’s name comes from the fact that it is located 1km away from the thermal village of Caldas de Reis, Torre do Río a place where time seems to have stopped. If what you are looking for is peace then that is most definitely a good thing - a secluded escape from daily routines, the noises and the rush of the city.

The estate itself has been restored from the ruins of an ancient textile manufacturing building dating back to the 18th century and reopened (thank you Rodrigo) as a Country House Hotel.

The truth is that even with so much natural beauty around, the attention to detail and what’s on offer at the Torre do Rio means that many guests will probably be reluctant to discover what else is on offer.

The 10 rooms of the house have been impeccably decorated with details and furnishings in the Galician traditional style of the houses and pazos (stately homes) of the early 20th century, with a healthy dose of modern facilities. Plus every room looks onto the garden and the Umia river.

With so much space the Torre do Rio has literally dozens of little hideaways and sheltered areas to enjoy a drink or read a book. There is also a place with simply amazing views, but we’ll let you discover that for yourself.

The area offers a wide selection of leisure and relax activities, such as thermal baths at the Cuntis bath house, an excellent range of trekking routes, golf, quad bike tours, canoeing in the Umia river and scuba diving in the pleasant and quiet water of the Ría de Arousa.
