The origins of this hotel go back a long way - 1698 to be precise, as evidenced by the recently discovered local archives that point to this date.

The comforts, though, are utterly modern.

The present building, for example, is “only” 100 years old and has been extensively restored so the visitor will want for nothing. The end result is a welcoming road hotel that is simple, modest and a good stopover for those who want to visit the local surroundings or wineries.

It has a further card up its sleeve. Over the years it has also built up a deserved reputation as a fine gastronomical haunt, where traditional recipes have been handed down from generation to generation (in 1987 it was actually awarded the National Gastronomy prize). The El Portal restaurant is utterly wonderful, for example, and has been awarded a Michelin Star.

The other restaurant available "La cocina di mi Madre" is also excellent value. Wine lovers will be also be happy to learn that there are some 300 fine wines to choose from the list. This is, after all, the famous La Rioja wine region.

The hotel’s location is another bonus, located as it is in the historic town of Ezcaray at the foot of the majestic peak of San Lorenzo. The scenery is simply magnificent and worth discovering.
