You can see why the Chic & Basic chain of fun city hotels keeps on growing. They give what the discerning, but value for money, conscious traveller is looking for. That is a central location, a good bargain, all mod cons and sleek, clean modern design.

The newest addition to the group is the Chic & Basic Mayerling and it is particularly well located in the Habsburg district of Madrid. A stay here and you can basically get away without using the public transport systems as there’s so much to see and do within the vicinity. Originally an old textile storehouse it now has all the hallmark of an innovative place to stay. Fun stuff includes a multicolour light system and a vanguard decor.

Bedroom interiors take in a neutral design and glass shower bathrooms (really cool, by the way). And wherever you are in the bedroom or bathroom, you can listen to music on the hotel’s music player. It is also replete with quirky touches everywhere.

Even the names of some of the public areas such as the “Be Yourself Zone” “Love Yourself Zone” “Help Yourself Zone” (you’ll have to find out for yourself what they are) are amusing both in style and in name.

Great fun and it is also a winning formula for the fashion and budget conscious amongst us.
