This most individual and idiosyncratic of hotels makes a delightful base for anyone seeking an elegant mix of the bucolic and avant-garde.
Small and unobtrusive on the outside, the 150-year building that makes up the Can Verdera lies on a protected mountainside in the stunning village of Fornalutx and almost fails to catch the visitor’s eyes.
Yet inside, an inspired renovation that emphasises classy modern design and contemporary art (numerous paintings are exhibited in association with a local art gallery) takes centre stage to provide guests with much space for contemplation and leisure. There are many places to relax, including the Moorish courtyard under the palm trees, or the beautiful garden and pool, which with their fabulous panorama of the Tramuntana mountain range alone would make a stay here worthwhile. Rooms, with their peaceful aura are equally attractive.
Marga, the most charming and urbane of hostesses will only be too happy to point out activities around the vicinity, which include diving, biking, golf and, for the aesthetes massage and beauty treatment.
