You’ll find La Maga Rooms in the old quarter of Játiva (Xàtiva) – on the road that leads to the Castle and a stone’s throw from the centre of town.

This is a venerable house that was once a pilgrim’s hostel and has been recently renovated with loving care to offer 7 double rooms – including a suite and a mini suite – with minimalist decoration that fits in perfectly with the surrounding classic architecture.

La Maga is a perfect springboard to visit the area. Just the Castle deserves to be explored in full, having been an important Moorish fortress until Jaime I of Aragón recovered it in 1244 after a five month siege. The city, with its 30,000 inhabitants, stands at its foot. Pretty fountains dot the place and are a legacy of its Arab past, as well as lovely, wide avenues lined by elms and cypresses that not only look beautiful but also protect us from the sun in hot days.

The old Saetabis of the Romans has good restaurants where we can taste rice in the oven, the “arnadí” (a dessert prepared with sweet potato or squash) and the “almoixavena” – another totally Arabian sweet that we recommend but won’t reveal the ingredients. A real trip through the Tunnel of Time.
