The name of this hotel literally means “by the side of the baths”. As the name implies, it is right by the 13th century public baths of the Moorish citadel. These are considered to be one of the best Islamic examples of their kind anywhere – and are not to be missed. The hotel itself is small, charming and located by the edge of the wonderful medieval town of Ronda. Inma and Christian, the very friendly hosts, have built up Alavera in keeping with Spanish-Moorish traditions. Hence the interior includes wafer bricks and warm colours whilst the exterior is made up of whitewashed walls, terracotta tiles, railings with flowers etc. There is also a reading room come library and lounge. A really attractive and well-decorated hotel that provides for a pleasant stay.

Sierra de Grazalema
Declared a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco, Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is located in the north east of the province of Cadiz and in the north west of Malaga, at an altitude ranging from 250 to 1,654 metres above sea level. A Special Protection Zone for Birds, the Park covers 51,695 hectares and is among the areas of greatest ecological importance in the south of the peninsula, and therefore of great significance in Spain as a whole.Its main activities are centred on woodcutting and cattle farming (in some cases using wild stock). Industrial activities include the manufacture of woolen shawls and leather products; other sources of income are tourism, hunting and recreational fishing.

Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park (Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves) is located at the heart of the natural Serrania de Ronda region, in the province of Malaga. Its greatest treasure are its conifer forests dating back to the tertiary period, featuring the Spanish fir, the most unusual species of fir in the world.

Next door are the Arab Baths which are the best preserved (and recently restored) 'hammam' in Andalucia. A visit is a must. Just metres away are two of Ronda's very oldest bridges, the beautiful archway of Philip V and the square of Ocho Caños. This was the area of Ronda which Francisco Rossi, the Italian film director, chose to film 'Carmen'. Just above the hotel are the battlements of the old Moorish citadel and two of Ronda's finest Mansion houses: the Salvatierra Palace and the 'House of the Moorish King'. Both can be visited.

ll	Tips & Getting There

If entering Ronda from the Costa del Sol, enter Plaza de España after crossing over the Tajo. Take the very first road on the right (opposite the parador) called 'Calle Villanueva'. Take the first road on the right, notice the cobble-stones. When you reach the T-junction at the bottom turn right again down the hill. Look out for the 8 headed fountain. Immediately after this, turn left into the 'Calle Real'. A few hundred metres further on the right hand side this street opens out to a small square. Turn right here into 'Calle Molino de Alarcon' continue slowly over the little humped back bridge, you will find Hotel Alavera after the Moorish Baths on your left.
