| The Hotel Almud is what can be called a real labour of love, for this 18th house has been built up by its welcoming owners into one of the nicest hotels in the whole of the Aragon Pyrenees. Attention to detail is obvious in every corner, with furnishings and materials being patiently collected over the years from all over the area. Add to this a privileged location evidencing the beauty of this region and you have a compelling accommodation as well as an excellent base from which to discover this part of the Pyrenees. Almud itself is located in Villa de Sallent, a typically pretty village high up in the Aragon Pyrenees (1,305 metres) with its houses made of stone, and excellently situated next to the Lanuza Dam. The views are accordingly superb. Inside, warmth and comfort is the order of the day. Rooms are individually decorated, yet all provide an elegant environment with period furniture and all the mod cons. Outside, natural activities abound, including skiing in winter and rafting, trekking, horse riding in summer and even mushroom hunting in Spring. |

Spectacular valley with singular microclimatic conditions that have made it a National Park since 1918. It was extended with the inclusion in 1982 of AÑISCLO CANYON, ESCUAÍN GORGES and the PERDIDO MASSIF, and given the name NATIONAL PARK OF ORDESA AND MONTE PERDIDO. Its total area is some 15074 ha. Around it, there are other valleys of great beauty: PINETA, BUJARUELO, OTAL, VIO, BARROSETA, permanently watched by the three “sorores”: the peaks of Monte Perdido (3355 m.), Cilindro and Soum de Ramond. Typical U-shaped glacial valley, surrounded by rocky bands: Pelay, Mondarruego, Tozal del Mayo, El Gallinero. The waters of the river Arazas form the cascades of Torrombotera, Molinieto, Arco Iris, Arripas, del Estrecho, Gradas de Soaso and the spectacular COLA DE CABALLO (Horse’s Tail). The exceptional fauna includes the Pyrenean goat or “bucardo” - a jewel that is only to be found in Ordesa National Park Ibexes, quebrantahuesos (bearded vultures), golden eagles, marmots and otters. There are also forests of fir, pine and centenarian beech trees.

| From Barcelona: Take the A7 motorway in direction of Tarragona and then turn on to the A2 to Zaragoza. Once in Zaragoza take the N333 highway in direction of Huesca. Carry on past Huesca on the N333, passing through Nueno and Arguis until you get to Sabiñanigo. From here, take the N260 road to Biescas. Some 25 km (approx 16 miles) after Biescas you get to the small village of Sallent de Gallego on the right and Almud is in the centre. |
