A truly atmospheric and sophisticated Florence hotel
The Antica Dimora is a most welcome addition to Florence’s selection of hotels, having recently opened its doors to the public, and is surely set to become one of its classic places to stay. In many ways it is a fair reflection of Florence itself - atmospheric, aristocratic and utterly sophisticated. Here we have a historical building dating back to the 17th century that has been restored to its historical splendour, through a careful renovation using original materials and articles. All 6 rooms are furnished with antique pieces and silk fabrics, ranging from rich and colourful Oriental silks to hand-made Tuscan linen draperies – a collection of devilish little luxuries. Yet each room is unique and painted in a different colour, using natural earth pigments, so despite the homogenous feel to the Antica Dimora, a certain individuality remains. Indeed, attention to detail like this is evident everywhere you look, making it a place where you feel the renaissance is very much alive. Then there’s the location itself, being situated on the Via San Gallo and close by to the Palazzo Pandolfini. A place where you can feel the atmosphere of Florence as if you were in a Merchant and Ivory film.

The Truffles of San Miniato Antica Dimora Firenze is situated about 40 minutes drive from San Miniato. The area surrounding this charming medieval town is famous for its plentiful truffles. It is possible to take part in searching for truffles, following the dogs which are specially trained for just this task by their owners who gather the priceless tubers and who are a source of inexhaustible information. In the squares and streets of the town, during the last weekend of November, there is a very lively festival held for their tasting with dozens of stalls selling truffles of every type and size.
The Olive Harvest Wine and oil are the two treasures of Tuscany. You can take part in the olive gathering, in their pressing in the old olive presses and finally, taste the oil as soon as it is made, together with a fragrant piece of toasted Tuscan bread.
