Bed & Breakfast San Jouan
Rome - Rome
Bed & Breakfast
Number of rooms: 6

This great little Rome Bed and Breakfast belongs to what you could call the new generation of B&Bs where the hospitality and informality is still very much present but faded curtains and smoking landladies are thankfully long gone! What you have instead are 6 rooms (comfortable rather than spacious – remember this is Rome) simply but tastefully decorated together with wireless internet and all mod cons.

The central lounge area is full of mediterranean plants and a lemon tree, windows in the ceiling allow in plenty of light whilst Chiara and the rest of the team are on hand to give you plenty of tips and insider knowledge about where to shop, eat out or take an aperativo in the Eternal City. Rooms in Rome are often mere dormitories in their considerations for style and comfort. At the San Jouan, however, there is a real feel for the fact that we are people and not just clients.

As for location, the San Jouan gives you a great opportunity to explore one of the more authentic zones of the city where real Romans live, love and eat out. It is the heart of the area known as San Giovanni, a 10 minute walk from the Colosseum and 20-25 minutes from Piazza Venezia, the Roman Forum and the really cute area known as Monti. The quarter takes its name from the Basilica of San Giovanni Laterano or Saint John Lateran which is 100m away from the San Jouan and is the most important Catholic church in the world from a purely religious point of view being the Cathedral of Rome and the mother church for all Catholics. This is where an imminent Pope goes to be received by the Roman people and accepted as Bishop of the city before he can rise to the chair of St. Peter itself.

If you tire of walking you can use the Metro or subway to great advantage, being located just 200 metres from Manzoni station and 300m from San Giovanni station which give easy access to the Spanish Steps, St. Peter’s and the Vatican Museums, all of which are on the same, "A", line. If you are thinking about coming to Rome then do try and make the effort to get away from the Termini train station area where 90% of the hotels are located.

The San Jouan does just this and with all of the advantages of being superbly connected with the city, in the heart of a real-life quarter at very reasonable prices.

ll Activities
The San Jouan provides a great base to explore Rome being based on the main A Metro line (the most useful of the two metro lines for exploring the city with stops at St. Peter’s, the Vatican Museums, the Spanish Steps and Termini central train and bus station). However, if you prefer to get about on foot there’s lots to do in the area with the Colosseum just 10 minutes away and the Roman and Imperial Fora leading off from there towards the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon.

ll Tips & Getting There
From Rome airport Leonardo da Vinci:
Take train for “Roma Termini” station (central railway), take Line A tube/subway for 2 stops with direction “Anagnina” and get off at “Manzoni” stop. From there you are just a few steps away.

Alternatively, they can arrange an airport pick up service. You may request an airport pick up at any time, all they need is your flight details and a driver will greet you with sign showing your name.
From the highway:
From any point of the “Grande Raccordo Anulare” (Rome beltway) follow indications for “Roma Centro”. Then follow indications for S. Giovanni – Via Merulana. Refer to the map for details.

Please note that whilst there are works being carried out on the Metro, the closest station to San Jouan is San Giovanni, approximately 400m from the Bed and Breakfast. From the Metro exit walk underneath the arches and approach the church of St. John Lateran. Immediately in front and to the right of the church’s facade, cross over both streets in front of you and turn left, take the street on the right hand side, Via Matteo Boiardo and the next street on the right is Via F. Berni with the San Jouan at number 7.
