Rural beauty and simplicity, Italian style

Simplicity Italian style is never just plain simple. It is usually simple and beautiful and both the Casa Roccio and dell Arco, located within the Borgo di Pianciano estate are a case in point.

The whole estate where these three houses are encompassed has been in the hands of the Bachetoni family since 1911 and also happens to be one of the leading olive tree farms in the whole of Umbria. It takes in the main villa, called Paradiso, built at the end of the seventeenth century and still is used by the family as a summer residence and several rural buildings. Located 11 km away from beautiful Spoleto, the whole estate takes in 2000 acres of peaceful and totally unspoiled Umbrian landscape. There are literally thousands of olive trees around it – over 18,000 at the last count - as well as wild fauna, such as boars and pheasants.

The three houses available for guests fit in perfectly into this typical northern Italian ambience and beauty, what with their stone walls both wonderful from the outside and inside and the shaded terraces being a must in the summer, whilst the swimming pool is actually a ten minute walk away by the main villa. The houses are not just stones and mortar, though. They are also a way of life and here you can buy olive oil, meat and even truffles when in season. Please note, however, the houses are only available from March through to October, on a weekly basis. The Casa dell Roccio and Casa del Cipresso take 6 people and larger Casa dell Arco takes 8.

For those of you who like to rest, the silence and quietness of the Pianciano hamlçet is an invitation to relax and read. The garden has many shady areas where it is possible to sit on deck-chairs or lie in hammocks. It is also possible to walk in the surroundings and enjoy the pool some 700 metres away. There is also a ping pong table in the play room for children. Aziz will be happy to help you with the barbecue.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Rome: (south) - Pass SPOLETO on the VIA FLAMINIA State Road in direction of FOLIGNO. After approximately 3 kms, turn right at the EGGI-SAN GIACOMO sign. At a large TAMOIL filling station (500 metres ahead) turn right in direction of Passo d'Acera.

From Foligno (North) - On the SUPERSTRADA highway direction SPOLETO - turn right at the EGGI/S. GIACOMO sign. Make a right at the traffic light and then turn right in direction of PASSO d?ACERA, 200 mts ahead (landmark: a large TAMOIL filling station).

From the TAMOIL filling station: Go straight ahead, reach the 6 km milestone, proceed slowly for 300 metres and make a right turn onto the dirt track at the sharp curve. Proceed onto the dirt track, pass the gate reading PIANCIANO (kindly close it after you) and proceed straight and slowly for 200 metres. Stop at the first small dirt road on the right.
