A great place to relax and take in the good things from a beautiful region
In our book, any excuse to go and experience fine wines, gastronomy and the delicious white truffles of northern Italy is fine by us. If we can then stay at the Cà San Ponzio, all the better! This pleasant and family run restored farmhouse is an open invitation to discover what this beautiful region has to offer. It is the area, after all, which has given the world the wonderful Barolo and Barbero wines (and not forgetting those truffles we mentioned). As for the Cà San Ponzio itself, a relaxing atmosphere pervades the whole place, where simple, yet comfortable, pleasures are the order of the day. Nothing fancy, in terms of furniture and furnishings, but a great accommodation to relax and enjoy what the Cà San Ponzio says is the real meaning of the “La dolce Vita”. A place to rest, take in some fine scenery and treks.

The Region is famous for it’s rich cuisine - for example, at the famous Grinzane Cavour restaurant. Maurizio or Luciano will be happy to indicate other fine places to experience local dishes. This is the home of Barolo, Barbera and Nebbiolo, so don’t go back home without having tried these fine red wines. To do so, visit one of the many wine producers of the area and have a taste of their products.
If you are sports lovers, discover the area by bicycle, taking the roads or along the country paths. Trekking maps are on sale at Cà San Ponzio, and Maurizio or Luciano, both “inveterate cyclists”, will be only too pleased to show you their favourite circuits. The golf course, about 10 minutes’ drive away, is especially attractive (www.golfcherasco.com).
Don’t miss to visit Milan and Turin and especially the towns of Alba, Cherasco and Bra with their pastry shops.... |

from Milan (190 Km.):
A 21 exit Asti (Est). At the toll booth continue South towards Alba (approx 30 km); keep on the dual carriageway and follow the signs for Barolo. A little before Barolo, keep on the right and continue in the direction of Vergne (our house is about 3 km from Barolo – marked with a cross on the map). Once you have got to Vergne, pass the “Del Bon Padre” restaurant on your right and the Osteria “Ostu d’Vergne”, Cà San Ponzio is signposted on your left (100 metres).
From Turin (60 Km.):
A 6 Torino-Savona - exit Marene. At the toll booth, continue on the right towards Cherasco, passing through the village of Roreto. Once you are close to Cherasco, continue on the Fondovalle road (on the right) towards Dogliani; after approx 6 Km, turn left, following the signs for Vergne - La Morra. After approx 3 Km, you will come to Vergne and, on the right, before the sports field, you will see the sign for Cà San Ponzio, just 100 metres away.
from Savona (90 Km.)
A 6 Savona - Torino - exit Carrù. At the toll booth continue towards Cherasco - Bra - Torino. After about 22 Km (approx 5 Km after the town of Monchiero) turn right following the signs for Vergne - La Morra. After Approx 3 Km, you will come to Vergne, and, on the right, before the sports field, you Will see the sign for Cà San Ponzio, just 100 metres away. |
