| Hidden away in the heart of the typical and unspoilt town of Huete is this elegant 16th century Palace, which has been awarded an Artistic Patrimony by the town. The owner, Antonio Reneses, lived in front of the (then ruined) palace, for some 15 years and dreamed of buying and restoring it to its former glory. This Antonio and his wife Encarna, have now managed to do with full aplomb. Restoration has maintained a large part of the original details, such as the old Castile style doors, stonewalls and coat of arms. If this wasn’t enough, then the ample and well cared for interior patio reminds us that we are in a true 16th palatial house. Lounges and rooms are enormous with high ceilings in a way that only true historic locations seem to be. Combine this with fine furniture and objets d’art, much of which has also been restored and hand painted, and you have an excellent value for money hotel. |

Cuenca
The mountainous, craggy countryside around Cuenca is a dramatic as any in Spain , and all the more so in the context of New Castile. The city itself, too, the Capital of a sparsely populated province, is an extraordinary looking place, enclosed on three sides by the deep gorges of the Huécar and the Júcar rivers, with balcony houses hanging over the cliff top - the finest of them converted to a Museum of Abstract Art .

Classic excursion to a 20-squares kilometre \"park\" of limestone outcrops, sculpted by erosion into a bizarre series of abstract, natural and animal-like forms.
Convento (convent) de la Merced
Impressive 18th century monument with a neoclassical façade that housed the “Mercaderios Order”.
Jesús y María Church and Convent.
Santo Domingo Church and Convent.
San Pedro Church.
Museo Florencio (Museum)
Located in the de la Merced Convent, it takes in over 200 modern paintings from important arists such as Corot, Picasso and Dali, amongst others.
Sacred Art Museum
Again located in the de la Merced Convent taking in much of Huete's patrimony and history. |
