One cannot but fail to be impressed by the sight of the 18th century twin towered edifice and its granite freestone as it comes stunningly into view. This is a magnificent manor house in all respects - beautiful Portuguese architecture, private chapel, vast 30 hectare farming estate producing port as well as excellent red and white table wines, surrounding landscapes of utter beauty as the Douro river meanders towards the sea and employees (the actual owners live in Lisbon) who truly care for the house and region. They imbue the house with simple regional tastes, such as the laces on the sofas on top of the typical Portuguese decoration and their welcoming nature adds to the palpable sense of peace and tranquillity. Activities here include wine tasting (a visit to the cellars is recommended), bike riding and a number water activities in the nearby Douro River. The house also boasts an excellent swimming pool with excellent views of the countryside. Dinner can only be served in advance but there are many fine restaurants nearby. Indeed, the house is close by to three of the region's most charming towns - Lamego, Vila Real and Amarante. Well worth a visit.

Cruises on the Douro
Wine tasting
Visits to the demarcated cellars of the Douro. Here, visitors can learn about the wine making procees: from planting the vines, aging and the final product.

Vila Real:
Town with great religious architectural diversity: Cathedral and São Brás Chapel (Gothic); churches of São Pedro and Misericórdia (16th century), São Dinis (16th-18th centuries) and the Baroque Capela Nova and Clérigos Church. Also worthwhile visiting nearby is the famous Mateus Palace, a Baroque masterpiece, where cultural events are currently held.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Porto Airport: take the A4 motorway to Vila Real/Amarante. Exit the A4 at junction 17and take the road N101 south towards Mesao Frio. Pass through Mesao Frio and take the road N108 to Peso da Regua. After 6 km. you will see a small bridge, turn left before crossing the bridge following the sign to Oliveira. Continue for approx. 3 km. until you reach the T junction. Turn left here following signs to Oliveira. The house is on the left after approx. 100 m.
