Elegant, charming and authentic, this is the real deal - a genuine chateaux set within 4 acres of park at the entrance of the Loire town of Saumur. Known as the “Pearl of Anjou”, Saumur and the banks of the Loire River are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites and in our opinion using the Chateau de Verrieres as a base is one of the best ways to discover this outstanding area.

It has been around since Napoleon III’s days and thankfully still retains that august “Belle époque” feel, packed as it is with true family heirlooms and antiques, painted ceilings and fabric covered walls.

The Chateau provides a truly genuine experience of elegant French living and hospitality and thanks for that goes to Thierry, Yolaine and their delightfully entertaining dog, Uno (not allowed in the guests quarters, by the way). They are utterly welcoming and do everything to make your stay as welcoming as possible. Indeed, unlike many other accommodations of similar standing this chateau is not stuffy or formal at all but relaxed. It is not a museum after all, though given its impressive furnishings it could easily have the makings of one. Rooms come with high ceilings and are lined in top quality materials, and even include especially commissioned tiles and cast iron baths - a simple wash here whisking you magically back to a period of 19th century French elegance. But don’t worry as 21st century necessities such as TV, telephone, hair dryer, minibar, and kettle for tea and coffee come as standard.

Whether just strolling along its landscaped gardens, which are in themselves a reason to visit, or using the chateaux as a base to discover this delightful region, we think you will find the Verrieres a great place to stay.

Verrières offers a unique privilege: to be within walking distance of the historical heart of Saumur, its restaurants and shops… and, at the same time, to take advantage of its quiet park and its outdoors pool heated from May to September.

International airports:
• Tours (75 Km) Nantes (120 Km) Angers-Marcé (45 Km)
• Saumur airfield accepts taxi-planes and private aircrafts up to 48 seats

By train:
• 18 daily trains to and from Paris and a connection service to Saumur. (1h50 about)
• TGV (high speed trains) between Paris-Montparnasse and Saint-Pierre des Corps/Tours (or Angers) with change for Regional trains to Saumur.
• Saumur station is 1.5 km from Verrières.
Taxis.

By motorway:
• (From Paris: 320 Km) towards Le Mans/Angers/Nantes, A11 out of Paris.
• Between Le Mans and Angers, take the A 85 towards Saumur/Tours.
• Exit at Saumur. Follow Saumur Centre.
