Corral del Rey
Seville - Seville - Andalusia - Seville
Luxury Hotel
Number of rooms: 12

This 17th century “Palazio” is just absolutely wonderful, a place with so many outstanding features we don’t know where to begin. First off, the meticulous renovation which manages to highlight all of the Corral del Reys architectural features, including the atrium, columns made of Italian marble and even the original timber beams. Just in case you miss them, as if you could, most works of art are also emphasised by a superb Lutron controlled lighting system.

Secondly, the location in the very heart of Seville - by that we mean in the old quarter of Barrio Alfalfa, some five minutes from the Cathedral by foot. One of the best places to view the old town is in the chill out area on the roof top terrace (there’s also a plunge pool there, by the way) which provides fabulous vistas of the Giraldo. We suggest doing so with a drink and partner as it is all just so romantic. You can also arrange for private dining here and that brings us to point 3, as the in house restaurant is simply superb, being relaxing, well decorated and, of course, replete with great dishes. You should try it at least once during your stay.

Fourthly, all rooms are positioned around the central courtyard and decorated with an assorted mix of old and new, but each indelibly stamped with the style of Kuky Mora Figueroa who has a very individual style of interior design – and one which works perfectly. They all come with a vanguard art sound and vision system., which even includes an I Pod docking station.

Any downsides? Well perhaps if you are a family with kids, as it is not the most appropriate place for children under twelve years old, given the style of décor and works of art in place. And, of course, all this comes at a price for its is not cheap. But if you want to rekindle flames of passion and feel sexy again with a loved one, then the Corral del Rey is the place for you.

Riding safaris through Andalucia

Riding safari from Conil de la Frontera to Trafalgar
Ride through the endless stretches of an unspoiled coastline. The Costa de la Luz beaches tend to be long, with fine
golden sand and huge dunes. The coastline is dotted with small fishing villages. The ride commences from Conil de la
Frontera where the long beach is backed by large cliffs in many stretches. Horses and routes will be carefully selected to
suit the level of the rider. On horseback it is possible to cover a wider area than on foot or by car. The forest is rich in
flora and fauna with wild sage, rosemary and lavender and many species of birds of prey. Riding towards the coastline
there are breathtaking views of Cape Trafalgar, Barbate and Morocco.
Riding along the via verde
Spain's vias verdes, green routes, are one of the lesser known attractions of its interior. Possibly the most beautiful in
Andalucia is the route between Puerto Serrano and the former bandit haven Olvera, sitting on its dramatic pinnacle
north-east of Ronda. The military regime, led by General Rivera between 1923 – 1929, decided that the region's
agriculture industry needed a light railway between Almargen and wealthy Jerez. Private enterprise paid for a rail line to
be laid along the route. They only got as far as the 38km between Olvera and Puerto Serrano before the project went
bust. Six dramatic viaducts and twenty four tunnels still stand.
The real beauty of most vias verdes, however, is that they are usually routed far away from habitation and roads. The
Puerto Serrano - Olvera route, particularly, forges through primeval countryside, in cuttings and raised sections in the
middle of wild landscape, farmland, mountains, scrub, valleys, water meadows, forest. Experience the via verde on
horseback and enjoy the spectacular views.

Riding from Villamanrique de la Condesa – el Rocio (the pilgrimage route)
The annual pilgrimage to El Rocio is world famous and attracts a growing number of followers each year. Three separate
routes converge in Lower Andalucia, all arriving at the small town of el Rocio via routes through the Coto Doñana. This
National Park has impressive natural wealth which can be enjoyed as you trek along the ‘Camino del Rocio’ on horseback
through the pine trees and arid land.
Equipment recommended – Hard Hat, Riding Boots, Riding Insurance, Jeans or Jodhpurs.

Gonzalez Byass
The bodegas of Gonzalez Byass were established in 1835 and the company’s founder D. Manuel Gonzalez Angel formed
a successful partnership with Mr Robert Blake Byass, who had been the new company’s Agent in London. Together they
built what has become today’s well-known company, internationally recognized for the care devoted to its sherries and
Brandies, for the high quality standards maintained across its wide product range.
The company is still directed by the 4th and 5th generations of the Gonzalez family, preserving the heritage, traditions and
culture of Sherry and brandy-making for over 160 years. Enjoy a tour of the ‘bodegas’ where you will taste a selection dry
and sweet sherries, and learn about the heritage and science of this great andalucian tradition.
Directions: Turn right outside of the drive onto the N-IV direction Jerez. As you enter the outskirts of Jerez you will see
car salesrooms on either side, continue on the N-IV to Cadiz until you reach a large rounabout (cuatro caminos), and
take the second exit up the hill called cuesta de la alcubilla. Gonzalez byass is on your left.
Duration – 1 ½ hour
Private visits can be arranged
Open to visitors all year round, including weekends and public holidays

spectacular elevated tee boxes surrounded by rolling hills. Montecastillo Golf hosted the 1994 and 1996 Turespaña

Dehesa Montenmedio
Dehesa Montenmedio Golf is situated left of the N340 close to Vejer de la Frontera in Cadiz. Designed by Alejandro
Maldonado, the course was set up with the intention to offer a playable 18-hole golf course where one could afford to be
a little less accurate from the tee (although the wind can be an important factor). It is renowned for its peaceful natural
surroundings, superb greens, advanced practice facilities, and its impressive clubhouse.
Directions: The Dehesa Montenmedio Resort is situated approximately 40 km South of Cádiz in the direction of Gibraltar.
The entrance is situated on the N340 (km 42.5) south of Vejer de la Frontera and is clearly signposted from both sides.

Benalup
The Benalup Hotel Golf & Country Club, opened in July 2001 and is situated on the top of a hill just outside Benalup. The
golf course, designed by architect Baron Paul Rolin, is set within an idyllic landscape with many lakes which makes play
quite challenging.

Real Sevilla
Real Club de Golf de Seville is an amazingly testing layout that hosted the 2004 World Golf Championships-World Cup
International Federation of PGA Tours José. Maria Olazábal was responsible for the creation of this excellent layout,
which any competitive golfer will immediately fall in love with. The 100 bunkers and four lakes that come into play on
eight holes make the entire layout all the more interesting.

direction Utrera. Continue for 2 km, after the petrol station turn right, drive under main road.

Zaudin
Club Zaudin is considered to be Gary Player's best design in Europe. Surrounded by orange and olive groves and with
stunning views across the city of Seville, this may not be as challenging as Olazábal's course, but it offers a very enjoyable
round amidst beautiful surroundings.
Directions: Zaudín Golf is situated approximately 10 km south west of Seville. Take the road to, and pass Mairena. The
course is situated between Mairena and Almensilla

sailing
The Bay of Cadiz is sheltered and enclosed, despite facing directly into the expanse of the north Atlantic. The coastline is
a made up of sandy beaches, marshes and saltpans as well as a complex network of inlets, and the lowlands beyond lie
in near virgin state with a natural park stretching to the east. Sailing areas are spread over three venues, the bay of
Cadiz, Rota in the extreme north, and Puerto Sherry and Sancti Petri further south.
With a prevailing south-westerly wind during the summer, but with the potential for the strong south-easterly Levante to
blow out of the straits of Gibraltar, and the hottest surface temperature in Spain, most courses will see challenging yet
satisfying conditions. Spain’s Mediterranean climate is modified here by westerly North Atlantic winds and occasional
warm dry air from the Sahara desert.
Nominated for Cruising World Boat of the Year 2004 and named one of the "Best Boats" for 2004 by Sail Magazine the
Dufour 44 guarantees absolute rigidity and weight savings and insures the strength and integrity of Dufour construction.
Enjoy a days sailing and be sure to take a hacienda picnic on board.
Directions: Drive towards Puerto de Santa Maria. Follow signs to Puerto Sherry and Sergio will be on standby and show
you to your yacht.

Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre
Sitting proudly in the centre of the town of Jerez de la Frontera, the famous Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre
draws millions of visitors each year. The equestrian centre is built around the Recreo de las Cadenas Palace. The shows
are held in the 1600 seat arena. As the distinctive tones of flamenco guitar start up, ten riders dressed in 18th century
country costume make their entrance and the impressive equestrian ballet begins.
The performance “Como Bailan los Caballos Andaluces” is an authentic equestrian ballet staged on typical choreography
taken from classical and country dressage, with Spanish music and according to the custom of the eighteenth century.
You can also visit the stables and tack rooms and watch the riders train the horses with the various disciplines.

Coto Doñana
The Parque Nacional de Doñana is essentially the delta of the Guadalquivir, the 'big river' (‘Wada-I-Kebir’) of the Moors.
Unlike most deltas however, the river has only one outlet to the sea, just below Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The rest of what
used to be its delta has gradually been blocked off by a huge sandbar that stretches from the mouth of the Rio Tinto,
near Palos, to the riverbank opposite Sanlúcar, and which the sea winds have gradually formed into high dunes. Behind
this natural barrier stretch the marshes (marismas).
Coto doñana covers more than 100,000 hectares and is recognised internationally for its immense ecological wealth
and as a key centre in the world of conservationism. The marsh cork oaks are known as "las pajareras" for the
enormous quantity of birds that nest in them. You have a good chance of seeing grey herons, lanner falcons, ring and
turtle doves, partridges, oxpeckers, cattle egret, storks and vultures, numerous types of geese and colourful colonies of
flamingo. If you're lucky you may also catch a glimpse of a Spanish Imperial Eagle, now down to 14 breeding pairs. The
park is also home to the the lynx, and the Egyptian mongoose although these too are in danger of extinction. Game is
plentiful - deer, fallow and boar.
Experience this wealth of nature with our recommended private labelled guides and drive through the coto in your
personal landrover while finishing the morning activities with a picnic especially prepared by the Hacienda.
Directions: turn right at the end of the drive and right towards Las Cabezas de San Juan. Join the A-4 direction Seville
and follow signs to Huelva. On the A-49 exit at Bollullos del Condado / Almonte and follow the A-483 until you reach El
