Ferme de la Platane
Ansouis - Vaucluse - French Riviera & Provence
Cottage/Apartment
Number of rooms: 4

With stunning views to the château of Ansouis, across to vineyards and the wide sweep of the Luberon, the Ferme de la Platane is a wonderful old farmhouse in the heart of a very special corner of Provence.

The farmhouse, originally dating back to the late 1700s, now beautifully restored, has three spacious studio apartments with double beds (or twin beds on request), and one slightly larger cottage with a double bedroom on the first floor. Set within 4 hectares of wonderful Provencal scenery, the apartments are completely independent allowing much greater freedom than could be found in a hotel. At the same time, groups of friends may want to rent two or more of the apartments together for a sociable affair whilst retaining that independence. A 14 metre swimming pool set in a walled garden with teak sun beds provides an ideal place to relax and while away the afternoon with views across to the Luberon hills. The kitchens in each of the apartments are fully equipped so you can decide to eat in, prepare great Provençal picnics or walk to the local restaurant. Alternatively, drive to nearby villages or a little further afield to Aix-en-Provence (25 mins), for example, where you have the choice of dozens of wonderful restaurants for all kinds of tastes and budgets.

The apartments are available on a weekly basis, Saturday to Saturday and are completely inclusive; no extra deposits for damages or linen. Each sleeps 2 and is non-smoking. The restoration was completed in 2006 and the overall feel is simple and relaxing; the Provencal charm has been retained and the thick stone walls keep the rooms cool in summer, warm and cosy in the fresher months. Original old beams and terracotta floors are combined with up to date bathrooms and kitchens, comfortable furniture and plenty of storage space.

La Cour
This apartment is slightly smaller than the others with a west-facing terrace with pergola leading to a sheltered garden. Ochre colours and terracotta floors create the feeling of an intimate and warm studio apartment. Luxuriate in the antique bath or the large walk-in shower.

La Magnanerie
This airy studio apartment is on two levels with the bathroom and kitchen area up a flight of steps from the large bedroom & living area. Muted tones of blue and cream together with a super king-size bed make this the perfect place to relax. Start your day with coffee and croissants on the private terrace overlooking the pool and Luberon hills.

La Fenière
Stone steps lead up to a terrace with breathtaking views over the vines to the mountains and chateau beyond. The layout of La Fenière is very similar to La Magnanerie, above. The high-beamed ceiling gives a refreshing feeling of space in the bedroom and living area, with windows looking out onto the walled garden; a super king-size bed and sofa ensure a relaxing end to a day’s sightseeing. Upstairs, the dining and kitchen area has more lovely views, west to the sunset.

La Petite Maison
A little larger than the others, La Petite Maison has a separate bedroom upstairs with a romantic old style double bed and views across the vineyards. Downstairs the sitting room with its old beams and terracotta tiles create an atmosphere of times gone by. The Provencal kitchen has a full size cooker for the serious cook, and the bathroom, in vibrant tones of blue and white, has the choice of a large shower or a roll topped bathtub. A pergola covered in ivy shades the south-facing terrace.

Once availability has been confirmed we will put the owner of the Ferme de la Platane in direct contact with the client in order to proceed with the booking process.

ll Activities
Enjoy the wonderful scenery and beautiful villages with their markets, the afternoon game of boules with pastis, the vineyards and the lavender fields; the Luberon that Peter Mayle wrote about in his famous book, A Year in Provence, is still here: The village of Ansouis itself is just 15 minutes walk away through the vines. The weekly market is held on Sunday morning and the chateau, which dates back to 12th century, is a must to visit.

Aix-en-Provence, city of art and culture is only 25mins drive away. Explore the former capital of Provence with its beautiful old buildings, fountains, and cafés on the Cours Mirabeau. The main market days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in Place de Verdun. The flower market can be found each day around the Town Hall (Hôtel de Ville) and a tempting variety of local produce in the daily market in Place Richelme.

Avignon with its famous bridge and Palais des Papes, Arles where Van Gogh lived and painted the famous sunflowers, and even the Pont du Gard and the Camargue are possible for a day trip. To the South, the stretch of coast between Marseille and Cassis is famous for its stunning Calanques, Mediterranean versions of the fjords. This is the home of the famous Bouillabaise.
