Wonderful cortijo in which to relax and take in the beautiful nature of this unspoilt region

Dramatic peaks and crags erupting out of the sumptuous woods and springs form the natural back-drop to the finca Al-Manzil, a delightful a 22 hectare finca set on the south west slope of the Sierra de Montanchez. Not surprisingly, the Finca Al-manzil offers breathtaking views all the way across the groves and vineyards of the region. But that is just part of the story. It has also been carefully renovated in the local style to accommodate 3 rooms in the main house and 1 in the barn. The main house is located on the slope of the sierra with great vistas across the olive towards the peaks. Simple décor goes hand in hand with spacious rooms and a living room with a traditional fireplace and doors that open on to a terrace and also a covered patio. The barn is situated in its own 2-acre grounds with a sunny aspect and views across the olive groves and is decorated in the same vein. Both houses can also be rented entirely. Families will love the Finca with its olive grove and many traditional stone shelters, chozos, plenty of springs and pools and perfect pic-nic spots. A place that is perfect for siestas, relaxation and taking in the beauty of this delightful region.

They will be offering weekly programmes several times a year beginning in 2005. Our instructors are local artists who have been trained internationally and practise locally in various mediums. The aim is to create and enjoyable week at Finca Al-Manzil with time to experiment in ceramics, oil and acrylic painting, collage and montage including elements from nature and "found objects".

The Sierra de Montanchez is ideal walking country, combining unspoilt nature with an extensive system of ancient pathways used by farmers to reach their remote mountain vineyards and olive groves since Roman and Moorish times. Even today donkeys and mules are the only way to carry produce from the mountain. The large, flat paving stones worn smooth by centuries of use are kept in place and the rain water gullies still function. All along these paths are numerous natural springs which keep the sierra green, even in the Summer. The views are splendid in all directions, until May one can see the Sierra de Gredos gleaming with snow in the distance.

At Finca Al-Manzil we will offer tai chi as a regular feature. They believe in the benefits of tai chi and practise it early in the morning before breakfast, a great way to start the day and everyone is welcome to join in. As tai chi is essentially a imitative and repetitive activity even a complete beginner can join in and maybe be encouraged to continue regularly.
