Wonderful views, an old romantic mill and a haven of peace

Há Mar ao Luar can be roughly translated as “Moonlight by the Sea”. The name may indicate this old converted mill is near the Ocean and the night stars here are pretty exceptional, but it does not prepare guests for the absolutely paradisiacal views of the Sado Estuary and Ocean that awaits them. The vistas it affords are truly magnificent, and with it being a haven of peace and quiet the Há Mar ao Luar is simply an excellent spot to get away from it all. It also has the added bonus of being located in one of the most interesting regions of the Lisbon Coast - the Setubal Peninsula and Arrabida Hills - just some 30 mile south of the capital. If you’ve also always wanted to stay in a mill, then here’s you chance, for in addition to the three houses and thatched roof cottage that make up the Há Mar ao Luar, there is also an old mill that proudly stands at the highest point of the estate and from whose terrace the views simply blow the mind away. One can almost be forgiven for forgetting about the place itself, but it does the area justice with simple, light airy and comfortably decorated in understated proportions. Local rustic pieces vie with the paintings of lighthouses and ships to good effect, both in the mill and the cottages. If you can tear yourself away from the views then nearby you will find impressive granite ridges rising out from the sea, lush Mediterranean flora, sandy beaches, coves (some of which are can only be reached by boat) and a superb natural settings. Recommended!

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Lisbon, cross the Tagus Bridge (officially know as Ponte 25 de Abril, and get onto the A2 motorway heading south. Follow instruction to Setubal. Once you arrive at Sétubal, one of the largest cities in southern Portugal and some 40 km from Lisbon, follow the signs indicating the Pousada de S. Filipe. Once you eventually come to the gate of a fort wall the road splits and from hereon in follow the signs pointing out the Há Mar ao Luar. Go for some 700 metres, then turn right and follow the yellow wall. Enter the 2nd gate

"Secretplaces verspricht, was der Name sagt... in Portugal hatten wir in unserem Urlaub wirklich zwei Geheimtipps! Als erstes in Lissabon mit dem Castelo de Sao Jorge mit einem fantatstischen Blick über die Stadt und den Tejo mitten in der Alfama. In der zweiten Woche haben wir im Ha Mar ao Luar auf der Halbinsel Setubal super entspannt. In beiden Unterkünfte wurden wir von äusserst freundlichen Gastgebern betreut und wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt.
