Helvetia & Bristol
Florence - Florence city - Florence
Luxury Hotel
Number of rooms: 67

Fads and fashions come and go but classic elegance remains and if you are looking for a hotel in Florence that belongs to the traditional school of luxury, the Helvetia and Bristol may well be it. It has the position (located in the heart of the city), the attention to detail and that old fashioned charm you would expect in one of Florence’s most exclusive lodgings.

This city knew elegance and style before any other in Europe; the Renaissance fermented here before rippling out to all corners of the continent. The art, history and overwhelming beauty provide a heady mix and the Helvetia and Bristol is one of the special places that act as a refuge, a lounge to come and relax in front of the fire in winter or opt for the terrace in summer, a private corner in your Florence. The intense emotion of this city can tire, what we have selected here is a way for you to visit and get inside of this city whilst having all the facilities and comfort of what could seem a members’ club in that grand time-honoured style. Antique woods, the grey-blue pietra serena stone pillars, carrara marble and paintings from the seventeenth century fill this atmosphere with tradition and grandeur. In lesser hands this may have been intimidating but here the designers’ superb selection of luxurious fabrics adds refined sensual touches to both the lounge, bar and, of course, the private rooms where silk, lace and brocade give refined opulence.

If you prefer classic style and comfort to fussy “design orientation” this is our recommendation for Florence. From here you will have the city at your feet and can relax in the knowledge that the Ponte Vecchio bridge, the stunning cathedral, topped with Brunelleschi’s dome, and Michelangelo’s David are waiting, literally, around the corner. The hotel has a renowned restaurant and equally relaxing bar so top that on to the comfort and luxury of the rooms and you have one of the finest quality “bases for exploration” in the city!

ll Activities
If you have decided to come to Florence then you probably already have a fairly good idea of what you want to do. Remembering that the Helvetia & Bristol is perfectly placed for all of the major historic and artistic sites, don’t try to do it all and end up missing what in our view is one of the best ways to get a feel for the city; relaxing, glass in hand in one of Florence’s piazza and watching the world go by.

Just across the river in the area known as Oltrarno, try Piazza Santo Spirito which has some lovely bars and cafes, perfect for an aperativo. The piazza is just 100 metres from the Pitti Palace which houses more than 5 museums in itself but what is really exciting about it are the gardens behind which stretch to the very limits of the Renaissance walls and lead to beautiful viewpoints over the hills draped with olive groves that come right up to the gardens. You are in the centre of the city but landscape is as if you were dropped somewhere between Siena and San Gimignano. Wonderful.

ll Tips & Getting There
The historic centre of Florence is unique and the authorities try to protect is as best they can by limiting access to cars. If you drive we recommend speaking to the hotel a week or so before you arrive and ask them for details regarding the latest regulations in force. They may be able to issue you a pass which will allow you to come right up to the front doors of the hotel. The staff will also help in finding a car park.

If you arrive by train (Santa Maria Novella is Florence’s central station) you will see taxis waiting just outside – a trip to the Helvetia & Bristol shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes and, depending on your quantity of luggage and the flow of traffic, this should cost between 5 and 10 Euros.

Please feel free to send us your personal hotel review on this hotel. You may wonder why all the assessments we have on line are positive. Well, apart from the simple fact that we try to include only what we consider to be the best accommodations, there’s another important reason to bear in mind. Any hotel that receives 3 negative feedbacks is automatically taken out of our selection.
