We don’t use words like classy, sophisticated and luxurious lightly, especially when dealing with a property in the Alentejo, an area noted more for its simple rustic charms than luxurious retreats. But for the Herdade da Chaminé, we’ll make a notable exception, as these adjectives do the place full justice. Imagine the scene, a wonderfully renovated country house surrounded by 87 hectares of cork trees and holm oaks. The sounds and smells that accompany you are the gentle neighing of horses and the fresh scent of the fields as you breathe the pure oxygen of southern Portugal.
One could almost be forgiven for thinking this is the middle of the Africa plains for it has that “Out of Africa” feel, so to speak. But as we have already made clear, there is nothing “plain” here. In truth, guests will live out a few precious days in total peace and serenity within an atmosphere of luxurious chic. Nothing was left to chance when renovating the house and all materials used are exceptional. From the ancestral stone, soft honey tones in the wood finish and rich fabrics to the deep and full sofas, decorative paintings and orthopaedic king size beds. It makes for a perfect place to be at once away from it all in comfort and in tune with nature.
Yet boredom will never be an option here for there are many and varied activities to choose from. Ok, you can take an outdoor siesta hidden under the trees if you want. That’s fine. But horse riding, wine tasting, target shooting and hunting (from partridges to hares and wild boars) are also possible in-house. All this is available less than two hours away from Lisbon, yet a million miles from city life. |

Hares hunting (a day's hunting for 2 persons) between October and February – 1.720€ (860€ /person)
The purpose is to provide luxury house accommodation for weekend breaks (breakfast included) and give guest the opportunity to participate in the hunt as well as to visit the good restaurants and wine cellars, and experience local life. Thus we also suggest the following programme:

Saturday Morning – Hare hunting (horses, horse transportation to the hunting location, lunch and participation fee included)

One-week stay:
The purpose is to provide guests with a luxury country house style hotel, where they can enjoy meals prepared by a private chef* and served by the Herdade’s waiters. The catering service will be carried out under the guidance of a well-trained supervisor in order to ensure that our Service quality, as well as of all activities outside the house and that undertaken as part the chosen programme**.
The list of possible activities undertaken at the Herdade as well as of other outdoor activities is extensive. There is also the possibility of having more dynamic programmes which include sports activities such as golf, riding, ballooning, just to mention a few, or leisurely strolls such as visits to historical sites, painting lessons, or organized tours to the most famous local wine cellars, wine tasting and lunch included.
Specific hunting programmes
Menus are submitted in advance for approval (this does not in anyway exclude the possibility that guests may visit the best local restaurants).
The Herdade also has 2/3 programme proposals allowing customers to make their choices and suggestions and thus to completely personalize their stay.
*A cook will be available for the duration of the stay depending on the number of meals to be served.
**The fees for the chosen programmes and accommodation will be paid together. As for the activities for which there is no need to make a reservation in advance, they will be paid directly by customers at the location of the event. (Restaurants, wine tasting, shows, etc...).

Take the A2 motorway and exit to ESPANHA/ÈVORA (A6). Carry on until you exit at ESTREMOZ. Once in Estremoz, take the IP2 main road to MONFORTE/PORTALEGRE. On the IP2 at kilometre marker 206, slow down and about 600m ahead of you, turn to the right (km 205,4) toward the Herdade da Chaminé.
From Badajoz
(From Badajoz airport: 40 minutes by car)
Take the A6 motorway Badajoz/Lisboa, exiting at Estremoz. Take the IP2 to MONFORTE/PORTALEGRE. On the IP2 at kilometre marker 206, slow down and about 600m ahead of you, turn to the right (km 205,4) toward the Herdade da Chaminé.
