Built in the 18th century as a gentleman’s residence, the hotel was transformed 100 years ago into a house with an unmistakable Arabic flavour, including nice stuccos and patterns worked in geometric forms and typical Arabian arches. Art is very much a part of the Alhambra. There’s a public room that doubles as an art gallery and a number of bedrooms, though simple, have the luxury of being furnished with original paintings by Antonio Otazzo. Other rooms such as the glass-roofed courtyard and salon continue this vein and are of a generous size. It all makes for a relaxed atmosphere and a great alternative for clients looking for something away from the madding crowd. The warm water open air swimming pool, sauna or gym further provide opportunities for either meditation or exercise. The Alhambra is also privileged to be located in the lovely mountain town of Orotava, which has a number of fine monuments and wonderful views. Additionally, northern Tenerife has a wealth of activities: from walking or cycling in the mountains to bathing in the various beaches.

Orotava is a lovely town located in a really paradisiacal valley with manorial houses built in the island's traditional style.

Icod de los Vinos
The town itself is an attractive settlement with buildings in the colonial style and is well known for its wine production.

Garachico is on the North West coast of Tenerife: an historic village with churches, ancient houses and streets that have all been well preserved. A village without any traffic-lights.

Teide National Park.
Mount Teide dominates the island, surrounded as it is by a volcanic landscape full of contrast. The coastal area offers luxuriant vegetation and a large variety of plants and flowers throughout the year. Also discover Masca, El Tanque, Arenas Negras. All around Garachico there are well signposted walking routes. Special maps are available for this purpose.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From the Airport Reina Sofia you follow the highway TF-1 ( autopista del
sur) to Santa Cruz.
Just before Santa Cruz you turn off TF -5 ( conexión: autopista del norte)
to Puerto de la Cruz.
You leave this highway at exit ( salida) 33.
You follow the sign La Orotava, P.N. del Teide uphill.
On the left side you can see a fountain ( 1 ) . You follow the street uphill and
turn off right by the first possibility ( 2 ) .
You follow this street, which bends a little bit to the left ( 3 ) and leads
directly to the historical part of the town.
You turn off right ( downhill) when you reach the cobblestone pavement and
then you turn off right again:
= Nicandro Gonzales Borges.
The Hotel Alhambra is the number 19.

Well, apart from the simple fact that we try to include only what we consider to be the best accommodations, there’s another important reason to bear in mind. Any hotel that receives 3 negative feedbacks is automatically taken out of our selection:

Douglas A.: For people like us, who search for small hotels with lots of character, Hotel Alhambra is and undiscovered jewel. We awakened each morning to a vista of the Atlantic but to the left was the snow'covered volcano, "El Teide"....all from our windows. The hotel is located in the middle of the La Orotava historic district that is filled with tiny streets, old architecture, and typical, romantic restaurants. Every day´s exploratoration of the district and surrounding areas was always fascinating. The owners are a warm, inviting couple who live in the hotel and treat each guest as family, but with respect for privacy. We will return to our "family" for sure.

I stayed here for almost a week, and did not want to leave. The hotel was beautiful, the location was perfect (in a small town, not overrum by tourists), and above all, the service was impeccable.

Jordi and Africa (the owners of the hotel) were absolutely charming, and catered to every need. The choice of food for breakfast was never-ending, the sight-seeing suggestions were always excellent, and the gerneral atmosphere of the hotel was very homely indeed.

I fully intend to go back as much as possible - it is the perfect place to relax.
