Situated in one of the loveliest ports of the Cantabrian coast – Mundaka - this two-storey hotel started off life as a fisherman's house. It has since been converted into a small and unpretentious hotel that offers unparalleled views over the sea and mouth of the river. We certainly recommend booking a room with a view of the port, it is well worth it. Those that manage to take their eyes off the vista will notice that Mundaka plays host to many surfers, for this is surfing region par excellence that rightly attracts practitioners of the sport from all over the world. Perhaps because of this Mundaka has a laid back feel to it and this is reflected in the hotel itself. The interior is simple so don’t expect luxury or refinement. El Puerto is certainly a good base from which to explore the region and its many delights. The magnificent Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, for example, is only half an hour drive away. Wonderful countryside and coastlines are within easy reach too. Before trekking off, however, don’t forget to try breakfast, weather permitting, on the terrace and enjoy the view.

Bilbao
Bilbao is the heart of a metropolian area with over 1.000.000 inhabitants. It was founded 700 years ago and since then it has been the central point for socio-economic development of the region. No other city has so many reasons to be the economic, financial, cultural and touristic centre of the whole area. Walks around Bilbao
A walk around the Old Quarter: Mediaeval Bilbao, including the Gothic cathedral of Santiago, several Gothic and Renaissance churches, the Arriaga Theatre and the Arenal Park.

The \"Ensanche\" and the modern city: This Expansion area of the 20th century, overlooking the River with excellent examples of modernist and bourgeois architecture.

The 21th century city: City of internacional design with Metro, new bridges, Guggenheim Museum, Euskalduna Palace and a new urban centre in Abandoibarra.

San Sebastián
Situated in the centre of the Basque Country, is the capital of the province of Gipuzkoa with three beaches opening out onto the sea. The city is superbly locatedat the mouth of the Río Uremea and around the beautiful Bahía de la Concha. There are splendid views from both hills, but the best is from the top of Monte Igueldo to which there is a funicular railway. At the foot of the other wooded mound, Monte Urgull, are the harbour and crowded older part –centre of evening activity whith buzzes in the narrow streets, bars and eating places. The best historical treasure in the city is the Museo de San Telmo, formerly a 16C convent. San Sebastián is the home of 180.000 residents. It is a cosmopolitan city with a long history of tourism and irradiates a special tranquility that turnes it into a particulary relaxing place for visitors. It enjoys a temperate climate with mild winters and pleasant summers. Average temperature is 22ºC.

Trips around Gipuzkoa: The tour goes along the coastal road to Getaria and its lovely fishing port. A little further in Zumaia you can visit the Ignacio de Zuloaga painter´s museum and afterwards in Azpeitia the Basilica and the house where Saint Ignatius Loyola was born. Return to San Sebastián through the Valley of Regil.

Excursion along the Bidasoa coast: The tour goes to Pasajes de San Juan, where you find Gipuzkoa´s loading port. Later on the tour, in the fishing town, Hondarribia, you can walk in the old town and try fresh fish in the \"Marina\" neighbourhood. Return along the coastal road and have spectacular views of the valley from Mount Jaizkibel.

Excursion to the interior area: On a trip to the interior around Goierri you come to see the the green country side, the mountainous peaks of the Aizkorri (1,550 m) and the Aralar mountain ranges. In Goierri you can see the Beasain´s 15th century palace and a visit to the small villages Segura and Zerain, with its Ethnographical Museum about Basque lifestile, also are a must on this tour.

In Bilbao

Bilbao Fine Arts Museum: This museum contains the second best collection of classical art in Spain, after el Prado.

Sala Rekalde: Exibitions of highest order in contemporary art. Some twenty art galleries complete the offer in the field of art with permanent exibitions.

Museum of Artistic Reproductions, the Basque Archaelogical, Ethnographic and Historical Museum and the Diocesan Museum of religiuos Art: Museums all of high cultural interest.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao: A museum that has converted the city into a centre of international artistic interest.

In San Sebastián

San Telmo Museum: Renaissance building that used to be a Dominican convent, containing an archaelogical exhibition, a Basque ethnographic section and works of art.

Naval museum: Exhibition of traditional shipbuildings tools and navigation in the basque country.

Ignacio Zuloaga Museum: located in the property of the painter´s family and include the studio of Zuloaga.

Julio Beobide Museum: located in what was once Beobide´s sculpture studio. Born in 1891, he belongs to the figurative trend in the sculptural tradition of the past century.

Chillida-Leku: collection of works by the sculptor Eduardo Chillida located in Hernani. It is a farmhouse from the 16th century. The gardens surrounding the building is an authentic outdoor museum adorned with 40 sculptures.

Get off highwayA8 / E-70 Bilbao – San Sebastian at exit No. 18 (Guernika). Follow BI-635 via Guernika to Mundaka. You will find the hotel at the church Santa Maria, right next to the fishing port in the centre of the village.
