Woody hills, beautiful vistas over lush flora, surrounded within 10 hectares of tropical vegetation? You’d be hard pressed to believe that you’re only 80km east of bustling and beautiful Rio de Janeiro. In fact, this is the “Região dos Lagos”, the Lake Region known all over Brazil for its beautiful scenery, endless sandy beaches and lagoons. In short, a place of leisure and relaxation par excellence. And that’s where you’ll find the wonderful Fazenda Sítio Nosso Paraiso.
This former plantation has 10 simple, but comfortable and well decorated rooms. Don’t expect top notch luxury, but do expect a place that is close to nature. And in this area, nature is glorious indeed, whether you’re looking for beaches, lagoons, vegetation or simply a place to while away your time. Sub-tropical trees and shrubs, offering guests the opportunity for peaceful retreat amidst lush vegetation, pool, as well as sunny and shaded verandas, cosy resting places with hammocks, a lake with an island and a viewpoint with sea-view make sure that batteries will be recharged.
Then there’s the special relationship the fazenda has with animals. The hotel has horses (see activities for horse riding details) dogs, cats, rabbits, tortoises, ducks, geese, chickens and (domestic/singing) birds. The animals are, however, all housed outside the vicinity of the guest area.
Yet despite all this peace Rio de Janeiro is a stone throw away so this is an excellent option for those looking to combine draw dropping natural beauty with a sojourn to one of the world’s most beguiling cities.
Suffice it to say that part of the hotel's title - Nosso Paraíso - means "Our Paradise" in Portuguese.

Horseriding
The hotel has ten horses of the Mangalarga-Marchador breed, known for their comfortable pace canter as well as for their good-tempered and patient disposition.
Riding lessons are available for both beginners and advanced riders. These include horse grooming, saddling and longe lessons as well as cross-country excursions.
Beginners are carefully introduced to the management of the horses and after a few lessons can take part in excursions.
From Monday to Friday, each guest is entitled to a free riding lesson per week (non-transferable bonus).
The hotel has a wide range of options for guests who are predominantly interested in riding: half or full day excursions to interesting destinations - including the sea (reached in two hours by horse) or to the waterfalls in the nearby mountain range, called "Cachoeiras Serra do Roncados".

The nearby beach town of Saquarema, located on a peninsular, offers numerous beaches catering for all tastes, including spectacular surfing opportunities.
All along the fine, sandy beaches are small beach restaurants offering changing cabins and showers.
The town of Saquarema is dominated by the old Portuguese church "Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Nazareth", built in 1630 on top of a rock overlooking the sea.
While a generation ago, inhabitants were fishermen and their families, it has since developed it into a small seaside resort, catering predominantly for Brazilian and Argentinian holiday makers.
Saquarema offers cultural events and concerts, and each year at the end of July / beginning of August, an international surfing competition takes place.
It is easy to reach the beaches using public transport (bus), cheap taxis or the hotel's courtesy bus shuttle service.
Further destinations with lovely beaches are the famous seaside resorts of Cabo Frio and Búzios (55 and 70 km distance respectively).

There is a bus stop only 300 metres from the hotel with hourly connections to the centre of Rio de Janeiro (90 min) as well as regular services to Saquarema (20min) and Bacaxá (12min).
Taking a taxi is easy and cheap.
The hotel also offers guests a shuttle service to the beach.
From Rio de Janeiro airport:
Take a taxi or the airport bus of the REAL" company "to the main bus station". Buses of the company "1001" provide a regular service to Bacaxá, the trip taking about 90 minutes.
Alternatively, the hotel offers airport transfer with the hotel bus/car for 67€ (up to 3 persons).
