Hotel Flora
Venice - Venice
City Break
Number of rooms: 43

The Romagnelli family have had many years in the hospitality business, so they know a thing or two about how to welcome guests with warmth and hospitality. Now add into the mix their elegant, extremely well located hotel behind St Mark’s square, in one of the city’s most elegant streets and you have all the ingredients for a memorable stay in Venice. The hotel we are talking about is none other than the Hotel Flora, a 17th Century palazzo that was once a School of Painting frequented by great Venetian artists. Folklore also has it that the next door Palazzo Conrarini Fasa was the home of Desdemona, the heroine of Shakespeare’s Othello, so tradition and history go side by side here.

Yet despite its wonderful location and history, it is definitely not a touristy or overpriced accommodation, particularly when we consider the city we are in and the specific location. In fact, the Hotel Flora is an oasis of peace that concentrates simply treating guests with good grace and comfort within an historical ambience.

Decoration, of course, can not be anything other then the Liberty Venetian style with period furniture from the late16th century onwards providing reserved sophistication. And though some rooms may be on the smallish side, even that’s not a criticism on our part. They are very well put together and furnished in an individual style with private bath, in-room safe, TV, plug internet connection and WI-FI, as well as individually controlled air-conditioning and heating. In short, the Hotel Flora is an excellent starting point from which to let Venice weave its magic on you, but its our bet that you will also fall for the hotel Flora, so don’t be surprised if you wish to extend you stay here for that extra day or two. There, we’ve told you so.

ll Activities
Hotel Flora overlooks the quiet Calle dei Bergamaschi, and is only steps from the Calle XXII Marzo, between Campo Santa Maria del Giglio and Campo San Moisè. This narrow street, also called Via XXII Marzo, leads directly to Saint Mark's Square, only minutes away, through one of the most striking approaches: the Ala Napoleonica, at the base of the Procuratie Nuove and the Procuratie Vecchie, which today houses the Museo Correr.
Beside the Hotel is the Palazzo Contarini Fasan which according to tradition was the home of Desdemona, the tragic heroine of Shakepeare's drama 'Othello'.
A short distance from the Hotel are the Teatro la Fenice, Ca' Contarini del Bovolo with its famous staircase, Campo Santo Stefano and the Gallerie dell'Accademia, the modern art at Palazzo Grassi and Palazzo Franchetti. From Campo Santa Maria del Giglio you can cross the Grand Canal with the gondola-traghetto and in a few short minutes you will find yourself under the volutes of the Chiesa della Salute, built by Baldassarre Longhena, or enjoying the masterpieces of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

ll Tips & Getting There
From the Santa Lucia train station or the Piazzale Roma
It is easy to get to Hotel Flora from the train station and the parking facilities by taking the vaporetto (waterbus) no. 1, to the San Marco stop. From the waterbus stop the hotel is only three minutes' walk. You can also take a watertaxi. We recommend taking only licensed taxis which can be recognized by the yellow stripe along the side of the boat and a number, and to agree upon a fare prior to boarding.

From the Venice Marco Polo Airport
Take the Alilaguna shuttle service from the airport to St. Mark's Square, and continue on foot from there. On land, you can take the shuttlebus service (ACTV or ATVO) to Piazzale Roma, and take vaporetto no. 1 until the San Marco stop, and then continue on foot for a few minutes' walk.
