Puglia remains one of the undiscovered gems of Italy and should you wish to stay in a boutique hotel from which to enjoy it, we vigorously recommend the La Sommita. This is not one of your typical Puglia hotels - an area more often noted for its rustic offerings - but when you consider this hotel was set up by the Italian Lifestyle brand Culti, then it should come as no surprise that the La Sommita lives and breathes design. It really is a designers dream, and to this you can add amazing views of the landscape and a commitment to keep the best from the past. In fact, the building itself actually dates back to a 16th-century palace that backs out onto an even older cathedral (15th century). The renovation is simply superb and done in such a way that notwithstanding the boutique trappings of oversized chairs, sofas and flat screen TVs, the history of the stone walls, vaulted ceilings teamed and framed windows remains very much alive. Furnishing retains the Culti vein of white lines, pale wood furniture and a certain minimalism giving all areas throughout a peaceful ambience. As for the area, all you have to do is step out of the hotel and you are in the middle of Ostuni, one of the region’s most dynamic little towns.
