ll Activities
Mahón, or Maó, with it’s 20,000 inhabitants, is the capital of Menorca. The city’s architecture reflects the presence of the British Empire, and legend has it that it was at the Finca San Antonio, where Admiral Nelson and Lady Hamilton spent some romantic encounters together. The harbour of Mahón is said to be the second largest in the world (Pearl Harbour being the biggest). The “Aquarium” in the harbour area presents an interesting exibition of Mediterrenean flora and fauna.

La Cuitadella de Menorca had been the island’s capital before this honour was given to Mahon in 1721 by the British. Although architectural vestiges from the moorish occupation are still everywhere to be seen, Cuitadella, moreso than Mahón, is imbued with an authentic Mediterranean atmosphere and colour, mediaeval facades, aristocratic buildings and narrow, labyrinthine streets of the historic centre.

Military Museum

History of the castles of San Filipe and La Mola. Particulary interesting is the hall dedicated to Carlos II.

Prehistoric monuments

Trepucó (south from Mahón): prehistoric settlement with the biggest set of taulas in the balearic islands. Taulas are huge, up to 5 metres high, megalithic buildings - T-shaped structures built from two immense rectangular stone slabs, simular to Stonehenge in England. Their meaning remains an unsolved mystery to this day.

Torelló und Talatí de Dalt: prehistoric settlements where the impressive talayots - huge round stone-walled towers with thick, wooden-beamed roofs – taulas, and column arrangements can be found.

Please feel free to send us your personal hotel review on this hotel. You may wonder why all the assessments we have on line are positive. Well, apart from the simple fact that we try to include only what we consider to be the best accommodations, there’s another important reason to bear in mind.
