Those looking to explore magnificent countryside and enjoy a peaceful retreat need look no further than Ibo Alfaro. This recently restored manor house is some 150 years old and perched on a really impressive slope with breathtaking panoramas of the Hermigua valley, hill ranges as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The small terraced garden is an ideal place to take all this in and, weather permitting (which is usually the case) enjoy breakfast with a marvellous vista. Bedrooms come with appealing wooden floors and look out onto the ocean or the valley, whilst general decoration is unpretentious yet comfortable with some nice touches. The stonewall of the dining room, for example, is rather attractive. The charming village of Hermigua, with its narrow winding streets is only a stone’s throw away and boasts some fine buildings that are certainly worth exploring. Furthermore, the wonderful surrounding countryside includes the Garajonay national park, home to a fascinating rain forest and an excellent locale for trekkers and lovers of flora, some of which can only be found here. Finally, an interesting point is the singular and rather pleasant aroma that emanates from the teak wood with which the house is built.

Garajonay National Park, which occupies more than 10% of the total area of the island, was created to preserve the botanical treasures. In 1986, it was declared a World Heritage site by the UNESCO. The 4,000 hectares (9,880 acres) of the Park are crowned by the Alto de Garajonay at 1,487 meters (4,877 ft.) above sea level. The ecosystem accommodates a multitude of native invertebrates and two species of endangered birds: the long-toed and laurel pigeons, truly living relics.
A complete network of paths facilitate exploration of this exceptional forest. In the Visitor’s Center of \"Juego de Bolas\", ample information is provided about the Park’s characteristics and services, and guided tours may be engaged.

Los Organos: formation of spectacular basalt columns only visible from the seaside
Roque Caño: this rock is the symbol of Vallehermoso and evidence of the former volcanic activity.

Vallehermoso has an interesting centre grouped around its parish church, with several stately buildings.

ll	Tips & Getting There

Fly Tenerife's southern airport, \"Reina Sofía\".

After 15min taxi ride you reach the southern port of Los Cristianos where there ara 6 departures a day to La Gomera. The last ferry leaves at 20h30. The ferries need about one hour.

Disembark at the port of San Sebastian, the island's capital, where you can take the northern route to Hermigua.

Passing the town-hall and the sports ground you turn into the street on your left before the Caja Canarias (saving-bank).

After 500m you see another street on your right (the second one), which leads you directly to the manor house.
