As the L’Orto degli Angeli itself likes to point out, this is not simply a hotel. Rather, it is an ancient family home whose owners, the charming Francesco and Tiziana, enjoy sharing their mansion with guests and invite them to experience the way of life of a great Umbrian family, surrounded by the beauty of an enchanting place. And beautiful it certainly is, being an integral part of the picture postcard village of Bevagna, itself an old Roman settlement. The Orto degli Angeli is very much part of its structure, which still maintains important traces of the village’s Roman past. Frescoed ceilings, enormous fireplace, paintings, staircase and antique furniture all add up to the atmosphere which guests will no doubt soak in. Then there’s the lovely hanging garden which links up the two buildings that make up the Angeli. All fourteen rooms, some of which actually look out onto the garden, which was itself built on the old Roman theatre carry on in this vein with colour coordinated textiles, curtains and tiled bathrooms. But then again, everywhere you look in the Orto degli Angeli or Bevagna, you are staring history in the eye.

Bevagna is situated in the centre of Umbria, an ideal position to visit this beautiful region. In less than an hour's drive you can reach the farthest destinations in the region such as Orvieto, Cittŕ di Castello, Gubbio, Norcia, Amelia, Narni, Marmore Waterfall and Lake Trasimeno.
In less than 30 minutes you can reach Perugia, Torgiano, Deruta, Assisi and Spoleto.
Spello, Foligno, Trevi, Montefalco and Bettona are all in a 10-kilometre radius.
If you feel like travelling a bit farther you can easily reach Rome and Siena in about 90 minutes and Florence in about two hours.

Coming from the North: leave the A1 motorway at Valdichiana, take the highway to Perugia, Assisi, Foligno. Leave it at Foligno Nord-Bevagna (about 45 minutes from Valdichiana).
Coming from the South: leave the A1 motorway at Orte, take the highway to Terni, Spoleto, Foligno. Leave it at Foligno Nord-Bevagna (about 75 Km from Orte).
When you are in Bevagna drive through Porta Foligno, a gate in the medieval walls, and carry on along the main street for about 150 m.: hotel L'Orto degli Angeli is on your right. |
