The story goes that the Almendra (Almond) and the Gitano (Gypsy) once met on a special day of a magical year looking for their own Shangri-la. As they walked along a heavenly park, they found a ruin located on the most beautiful piece of land. Almendra!" exclaimed El Gitano "we have found it!" Their dream had come true.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the place they found is now the spot on where the La Almendra y el Gitano now proudly stands. The very name of thi rural retreat gives part of the game away but the fact is that the La Almendra y el Gitano itself is a place full of enchantment and daydreams, set as it is within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park and only 5 km from the sea. Perhaps you will meditate under the shade if Don Anselmo (a 300 year old carob tree), by the swimming pool and its “pitaco” trees, or ancient Moorish water tank, but wherever you may stay here, the silence and sheer calm is all pervading.

That Moorish, oriental feel is undeniable, as is the white washed architecture itself; Even so, décor is graceful and contemporary, whilst rooms are designed in such a way as to have direct access to the garden without sacrificing any modern little pleasures, such as TV, DVD, latex mattresses and, in the case of the suites, even minibar and Jacuzzi. As you step out of the room, any room, we’ll let you judge the views for yourself. Let’s just say that we think you won’t be disappointed.
