| Located by a tiny street in the historic quarter of one of the beautiful “White Villages” - Arcos de la Frontera - the “Big House”, to give it it’s English name, is without doubt a gem of a place. Thanks must go to Elena and Ferran for graciously opening up their 18th century private home (one of the most important aristocratic houses in Arcos) into such an exquisite accommodation for discerning travellers. The feeling is definitely one of intimacy. However, the view alone would make a visit worthwhile, as how many places can claim to be sandwiched between a beautiful cathedral and fine church, with the old quarters of Arcos and the countryside of Andalusia as a backdrop? The upper terrace, perched as it is over what at first sight seems a precarious cliff, and where a refreshing welcome drink is served, is a privileged location to take this magnificent sight in. The interior is no less impressive. Ceilings with wooden beams painted in several colours, such as greens and whites, blues and reds, as well as terracotta floors and tiles, testify to the imagination and attention to detail put into the decoration. Some other fine touches include a recondite with a piano, greenhouse and stand full of vinyl records and CDs. Rooms carry on this vein as guests are pampered with bright, quirky and colourful bedrooms. In short, a cosy, well thought out and imaginative place to spend a romantic vacation. |

ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA Situated between countryside and mountains, the town, which features scenery typical of both, is crossed by two rivers, the Guadalete and the Majaceite. The former supplies the Bornos and Arcos reservoirs, both of which have been declared Natural Beauty Spots as fine examples of wet zones. Part of the town also falls within the boundary of Los Alcornocales Natural Park. Standing atop a rock with a sheer drop down to the river, affording spectacular views of the surrounding area, the town dates back to Moslem times. Today, recognised as a Monument of Historical and Artistic Importance, it consists of two districts. Its steep, narrow, winding streets and multitude of nooks and monuments of great beauty make it a most strikingly attractive location, the highlights of which are the Castle, and the churches of St. Mary and St. Peter.

| La Casa Grande is located in the old quarters of Arcos. Once in Arcos, follow the signs to “centro ciudad” or Parador. You must leave your car in Cabildo Square in front of the parador, then walk along Escribanos Street (to the left of the parador), turn right into Calle Maldonado. La Casa Grande is at number 10. It is just a two minute walk. |
