Some places are relatively easy to describe, a few rooms here, a garden there, nice, public areas and, basically… that’s it. Others are much more complex, those that have a range of subtleties and nuances and don’t fit any fixed pattern. Exactly what a secret place should be, in fact, and the La Maison de Blauzac is a beguiling case in point, par excellence.

We just couldn’t get enough of it and fell not only in love with the place and the area but also the owners, Christian and Pierre, who are simply the most delightful of hosts. But let’s start with the house, which is dazzling. Old world, yet modern, classical though still trendy and chic, imposing but easygoing, it manages to take in a number of apparent contradictions and blend them together with magnificent style. And despite being an 18th century building made of old, smooth luminous stone, the La Maison de Blauzac is actually very young at heart. Really chic furniture and furnishings, some of old, some new and some just plain quirky but always utterly stylish and comfortable, make sure of that. And we haven’t even begun to mention the jaw dropping views from the house that pan out from Uzès to Mont Ventoux.

Other little delights? The superb pool tucked away within jasmine, olive and bay-trees; the old piano in the living room? the magical steps that lead up to the reading room (replete, by the way with exotic tapestries from Turkey and Iran. We can go on and on. The Le Maison de Blauzac is very much the sum of its parts – style, warmth, history, tranquility, views and authentic unspoilt hospitality of the real Provence. A real gem.

ll	Tips & Getting There

Take the A9 Motorway and turn off at REMOULINS at exit 23. Follow in direction of UZES. 2 km east of Uzes take the D979 in direction of NIMES. 3 km on BLAUZAC is indicated on the right. Once in the village look for the CHURCH SQUARE. The Maison de Blauzac is to be found at the end of the square on the right.
