Sophie and Jacki Dudemaine bought this old presbytery close to one of Normandy’s prettiest villages – Saint-Etienne-la-Thillaye, in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, ten minutes away from Deauville. They converted it into La Maison de Sophie, a haven of peace and quiet with 5 guest rooms delightfully decorated. Sophie was already a familiar name to the French for her book on pastry making “Les Cakes de Sophie” that sold over a million copies. She continues to practice her culinary skills at an impressive Norman kitchen where she imparts her wisdom to six practicing pupils.
The bedrooms, with private bathrooms, double-pane windows and air-conditioning, are:

There are two communal sitting rooms, elegant and comfortable. And a garden that is a joy in spring, with shrubs full of roses, bougainvillea and jasmine – together with one of those small pools where you swim counter current. It’s in this garden where Sophie will prepare delicious breakfasts, should the weather be favourable. La Maison de Sophie is an indispensable rendezvous for the food gourmet.

Algotherm Thalassotherapy center in Deauville
This superb center is located in an exceptional position, on the edge of the beach near the town center. In this light-filled white and marine blue building, the smallest sun beam is captured. This small area of well-being is designed to recover one’s strength and get back into trim under the leadership of a team of attentive and competent professionals: the center offers Thalassotherapy which is based on feeling good and the harmony of body and mind.
Horse riding center
Lessons for adults/children, trekking and boarding stables possible in Saint-Pierre sur Azif, 6 km away. Open all year.

The Driver’s club
A huge leisure park which is unique in Europe located 5 minutes from the center of Deauville: 6 circuits including a lake, 23 activities, 30 hectares, more than 200 motor vehicles. Groups of 5 to 1,000 people are welcome.

Adventure: Quad, 4-wheel drive, rifle shooting

Specialized in motor racing, and located in an exceptional 90 hectare site of unspoiled nature, the EIA motor racing circuit offers a range of different activities:
* the Karting challenge (800 m of track),
* the driving sensation on a circuit at the wheel of dream cars such as Lotus, Spider Renault sport, Smart Roadster or Opel Speedster,
* Quad rides on a magnificent 15 km itinerary.

From Paris
Take the A14 freeway towards Rouen, and then the A13 freeway towards Deauville-Trouville and Caen.
Take the exit for La Haie-Tondue
(this is the first exit after the one for Deauville-Trouville).
Head towards Beaumont-en-Auge (D58).
At the center of the pretty little village of Beaumont-en-Auge, turn right towards Saint-Étienne-la-Thillaye (D58).
You are only 2 km from your destination. Sophie’s House is located in the center of Saint Etienne La Thillaye, on the left-hand side, after the church.
From Caen
Take the A13/E46 freeway towards Paris.
Take exit n° 30, and then take the N175, via Troarn, Dozulé and Annebault.
When you come to a roundabout, turn left onto the D58 towards Beaumont-en-Auge (D58).
At the center of the pretty little village of Beaumont-en-Auge, turn right towards Saint-Étienne-la-Thillaye (D58).
You are only 2 km from your destination. Sophie’s House is located in the center of Saint Etienne La Thillaye, on the left-hand side, after the church.
If you are traveling by train:
Sophie’s House is only 5 km from Pont-l'évêque. When you are booking your stay, please advise your arrival time so that they can come to collect you at the station. |
