A truly outstanding Italianate Villa close by to Rome

Overlooking the Tyrrenean sea and surrounded by 15 acres of Italianate gardens, the Posta Vechia is, as its own publicity brochure states, an exceptional hotel for exceptional people. If you don’t take their word lets see what some guests have said. “A magical place close to Rome”, “A fairytale”. Even J. Paul Getty, who once owned the Posta Vechia called it "A serene and heavenly home”. In fact . J P Getty was instrumental in making this the work of art it is today. Together with the art critic Federico Zeri, they set about decorating each of the 7 Suites and 12 Rooms. Classically decorated and full of awe-inspiring antiques, paintings and tapestries, the word that comes to mind most readily is “extraordinary”. Art treasures everywhere many of which from Royal Houses around Europe – ceramics, antique pieces, etc. The rooms even afford wonderful views of the sea or gardens. In short, everything they say about the Posta Vechia rings true. It is a place of dazzling taste, art and history. Of course, all this comes with a price and in this case the Posta Vecchia saying that it is not one of our “less expensive” choices is quite an understatement. But in the Posta Vecchia you have a place of pure class.

In 1960, during the Getty resotoration of La Posta Vecchia, the remains of two ancient Roman villas were discovered beneath the foundations.
Getty carefully restored the intricate mosaics and objects found and created a private museum.
Today the Posta Vecchia Museum is continuing to restore Roman art with the help of the Gruppo Archeologico Cerite .

The Museum is open to hotel guests everyday, and by appointment to outside visitors.
Tarquinia and Cerveteri

Tarquinia is a lovely Medieval town with Renaissance and Neoclassical touches that belie the fact that its most famous inhabitants, date back to a period that precedes even that of the Romans. Tarquinia was the centre of the Etruscans, and many tombs and traces of this early civilization have been found in the surrounding countryside. Ceveteri was another important city during Etruscan times. Its Necropolis, a 'city' of tombs, is the best preserved and notable of the Etruscan ruins.

Rome

The Eternal City is only a stone’s throw away; within 40 minutes you can be enjoying a cappucino in Piazza Navona, overlooking Bernini’s masterpiece, the Fountain of the Four Rivers. Transport, guided tours, itinerary and restaurants can all be organised by the hotel.
