Marrakech has come to Marseille! And it’s quite appropriate really. Marseille with its multicultural kaleidoscope of colours, sights and close association with the Mediterranean is a unique city in France. Many immigrants made their home here and gave it a vibrant African quarter with a large bazaar. There’s no other place quite like it mixing urban legend and energy, so when Fatiha Ouicho decided to quit Paris and set up the concept of Ryad in France, Marseille was an obvious choice. After over a year’s hard work in restoring a run down building, the result is utterly authentic. Laid out around a patio with an open sky and just a stone’s throw from the Old Port, it’s just like the real thing. Close your eyes for a moment and you can be in the Medina of Essaouira. The nine rooms totally capture the interior architecture and colours of the towns of northern Morocco with the use of wood, wrought iron and leather. We can go on…The garden with its fountain of time, a taste of mint tea while the birds sing above, dinner with traditional specialities. But above all, you get a slice of real hospitality, the Moroccan way without leaving the shores of Europe.
