We visited the Lime Tree Hotel by chance during a trip to London as it was not part of our itinerary, but we’re so glad we found it. We fell in love with this hotel, the area and not least the hosts. It’s just such a friendly and hospitable place, plus the building itself is of special architectural/historical interest and has protected status.

The same family have been running the hotel for many years so they have had a lot of practice in developing the art of hospitality. It is now in the safe hands of Charlotte and Matthew. They place a lot of emphasis on interacting with guests and provide no end of suggestions to make the most of this fantastic city.

And as this delightful couple state, they believe what most people visiting London want is simple: a clean and friendly environment, a safe, secure and central area, and a reasonable budget.

Following the recent reconversion of the Lime Tree’s 25 rooms, tasteful decoration can also be added to the above list.

In terms of area, you can’t get much more central in London. It is a stone’s throw away from Victoria Station and notable monuments within walking distance include Buckingham Palace and Harrods. You can take your pick of Hyde Park and St James Park for a gentle morning stroll or shopping heaven in Oxford Street which is not that far away either.

Eating:
There are several delicious restaurants in the immediate area. Boisdale, a Scottish establishment in Eccleston Street, offers a cocktail bar with the largest collection of malt whiskies in London and live jazz music until the early hours. La Poule au Pot is an ever-popular romantic French bistro just along Ebury Street. Il Convivio is great for all those Italian lovers and is favoured by Chelsea Clinton for her romantic dinners! The Thomas Cubitt just round the corner on Elizabeth Street is a fine example of a gastropub, serving delivious food and great beers. Last but not least, the Ebury Wine Bar is right next door to us and offers excellent hearty, mouth-watering English fare.

Shopping:
On the shopping front the area has some gems. For those with a sweet tooth The Chocolate Society and the world-renowned Poilane Bakery may be tempting. Elizabeth street also houses Philip Treacy (the famous milliner), beautiful chic clothing from Ben de Lisi, a cigar shop, a delicious delicatessen and a pharmacy all within a stone's throw of the Lime Tree.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From London's Heathrow Airport to the Lime Tree Hotel:

Option 1: Heathrow to Victoria by Tube (subway)
for £3.70, the Tube takes you the 14 miles to Victoria in 50 minutes. Even better buy a £5 one-day Travel Card that covers your journey into London and the rest of your Tube travel for the day. You will get on at one of the Heathrow terminals on the Piccadilly line (dark blue on the tube map). You'll need to change at Hammersmith or Barons Court onto the District line (green) to reach Victoria Station. It's then just 5 minute walk to the hotel.

Option 2: Heathrow to Victoria by bus
The National Express bus runs between Heathrow's central bus station and the Victoria Coach Station, just one block from Victoria Station and just around the corner from the Lime Tree Hotel.
Cost: £7 approx, 2 buses per hour, 50-65 min journey time,
From 05:40 to 21:45 from Heathrow, 07:45 to 24:00 from Victoria.

Option 3: Heathrow by Heathrow Express train and tube
This slick train service takes you between Heathrow Airport and London's Paddington Station in 15-20 minutes.
Cost £13 approx (but ask about discount promos at Heathrow ticket desk)

At Paddington Station, take the tube (Circle or District Lines) directly to Victoria Station, and then walk 5 minutes to the hotel. Note: if you are not comfortable taking your luggage up and down lots of stairs, you may want to avoid the tube and take a taxi from Paddington directly to the hotel. This will cost on average £5-£10, depending on traffic.
London's Gatwick Airport to Victoria Station:

Gatwick Express trains shuttle conveniently between Gatwick and London's Victoria Station 24 hours a day. Tickets can be purchased on the train at no extra charge.
Cost £11 single or £21.50 round-trip, 2 trains per hour during the day, 1-2 trains per hour at night, journey time 20 mins. From Victoria Station, it's then a 5 minute walk to the hotel.

Stansted Airport

Option 1: Airbus
If you're flying in or out of Stansted you can take the Airbus between the airport and London's Victoria Coach Station.
Cost £10, 2 buses per hour, from 04:00 to 24:00

Option 2: Stansted Express
Take the Stansted Express from London's Liverpool Station.
Cost £14 one way, with trains on average every 40 mins, from 04:30 to 23:30

Luton Airport

For Luton take the Green Line's bus #757, which runs between the airport and Victoria Station at Buckingham Palace Road - stop 6 Cost £8 approx. journey time approx 1 hour depending on the time of day sometimes can take up to 1.5 hours. From 04:30 to 24:00

From Victoria Station to the Lime Tree Hotel (on foot)

If you exit Victoria Station from the north (near the taxi stand), turn left and proceed west to Buckingham Palace Road. Go left along Buckingham Palace Road and cross at a cross-walk (watch both ways for traffic!). Go right at either Eccleston Street, or Elizabeth Street, and walk one block to Ebury Street. The Lime Tree Hotel is at 135 Ebury Street, between Eccleston and Elizabeth Streets.
