Menhirs around Monsaraz
There are two giant menhirs just a short way from the Reguengos road; at Outeiro, Bulhoa (with symbolic engravings). Further menhirs lie at São Pedro do Corval (12 Km from Monseraz) and at Monte do Xadrez.

ll Tips & Getting There
From Lisbon: After passing either the Ponte 25 de Abril or the Vasco da Gama bridge go south (Algarve) on the motorway until you can take the A6 to Spain and Évora and from there follow the signs indicating Beja/Reguengos (IP2), after about 15 kilometres take the EN 267 to Reguengos. At the exit of this town, turn to the left, in the direction to Monsaraz through Sao Pedro do Corval. Some 6 kilometres outside that village, in a bend, you will find a signpost indicating OLIVAL DA PEGA and MONTE SARAZ on the left-hand side. Proceed on the dirt road, go right at the T-junction, this road will take you to Monte Saraz.

From the South: Take the IP2 motorway to Beja, following the road to Évora until you get to São Manços. From there follow the signs to Reguengos de Monsaraz (EN256) and take the route described above.

From Porto: Take the A1 till Setubal, then continue on to the A13 to Algarve/Évora, until you reach the signposts reading “A6 to Évora”. From Evora onwards you can follow the same road as described above.

From Badajoz/Spain: Take the A1 motorway towards Lisboa till Estremoz/Borba/Vila Vicosa. Then follow the N255 towards Reguengos de Monsaraz. Outside Tarena pick the turning indicating Monsaraz, going through Cabeca de Carneiro, Seixo and Motrinos. In Motrinos take the road on your left towards Barrada. Once inside Barrada, turn right at the signpost for MONTE SARAZ. Proceed on the dirt road that leads you to Monte Saraz.

From Villa Nova de Fresno/Spain and Mourão: In Mourão go towards Reguengos/Monsaraz and take the turning to Monsaraz after the bridge over the Guadiana/Alqueva. Then take the first road on the left, indicating Horta da Moura. After passing this Hotel go straight ahead to the end of the road turn left to São Pedro de Corval. Monte Saraz is located in a small bend 500 meters ahead and is correctly sign-posted. Take the dirt road, where you also find the sign of OLIVAL DA PEGA and MONTE SARAZ. Proceed on the dirt road, go right at the T-junction and it will take you to Monte Saraz.

From Monsaraz: In Monsaraz take the left turning to São Pedro de Corval. Follow the signs all the way through Telheiro. Outside Telheiro after the roundabout the MONTE SARAZ and OLIVAL DA PEGA signpost is located in a small bend 1500 meters ahead. Take the dirt road, where you also find the sign of OLIVAL DA PEGA and MONTE SARAZ. Proceed on the dirt road, go right at the T-junction and it will take you to Monte Saraz.

Monte Saraz is some 2 hours drive from Lisbon and some 45 minutes from Evora.
