Rustic charm and simple pleasures near some of the best beaches in Portugal

The cute little Monte do Adaíl was built back in 1888 and has been in the hands of the original family ever since. They knew they were onto to something special and decided to open up its door to the public in 2004. It’s a typical Alentejo house, located in a secluded spot and surrounded by olive and orange trees, not far off the pretty little town of Porto Corvo. The Monte do Adail is one of those places that provides guests with an open invitation to relax in unpretentious, yet comfortable surroundings. Traditional architecture and lovingly decorated rooms using local materials, for example, go hand in hand with fully equipped apartments complete with all mod cons. Perhaps the fact that it has only recently opened means that the garden has more room to grow, but there is no denying its rustic charms and wonderful location. A place to relax and enjoy the many charms of this singular region. And now, with a recently added swimming pool it might even be hard to tear yourself away to visit some of the best beaches (20 minutes away) in Portugal, if not Europe.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Lisbon:
Take the A2 motorway in direction of the Algarve (you will have to pass the Tagus Bridge). Carry on for the motorway and turn off at exit 9 (Sines, Grândola). Pass the toll and head onto the IP8/N120 in direction of Sines some 47 kilometres. Turn right in direction of Vilanova de Milfontes/Algarve (IC4/N120). After some 2/3 km, turn right (along the coast) in direction of Porto Corvo, pass Porto Corvo and continue towards Vilanova de Milfontes. There will be a crossing with signs for Ilha do Pessegueiro to the Right and Vila Nova de Milfontes to the left. Turn in direction of Vila Nova de Milfontes. Carry on for some 7/8 kilometres to Ribeira da Azenha. You will see a signpost for “Turismo Rural” (a symbol in the shape of a green tree) follow this sign and you will eventually come to the Monte do Adaíl.

From the South:
Cross the bridge over the Mira River at Vila Nova de Milfontes and continue in the direction of Cercal. At the exit of Vila Nova, you will come to a small place called Abrunheira. Once there, you will see a primary school on the left next to the first traffic light. Once there, turn left here in direction of Porto Corvo. Continue for some 4 km until you reach Ribeira da Azenha. You will see a signpost for “Turismo Rural” (a symbol in the shape of a green tree) follow this sign and you will eventually come to the Monte do Adaíl.
