During the 2nd World War, Estoril was a hive of international espionage and secret diplomacy. Exiled Royalty from all over Europe took refuge here as a consequence of Portugal’s neutral status and with them came the Allied, and Axis spies trying to outdo each other in the search for new information and leads.

One of the main arenas where all this spying activity took place was the Palácio Estoril and it is so easy to see why this hotel was a focal point of such activity. Sophisticated, cosmopolitan and atmospheric, it is precisely the sort of place where glamorous James Bond types could feel at home, where Martinis are shaken and not stirred, so to speak. Now the spies are long gone, and Estoril has lost a bit of its grandeur, but Royalty and VIP’s keep on coming, enchanted not only by the Regency style golden era atmosphere it affords but also the wealth of leisure and cultural activities at its doorstep, which include sandy beaches, exclusive golf courses, one of which is actually owned by the hotel, and some of the finest sea food restaurants anywhere.

Its rooms, of course, fit perfectly within its philosophy, being tastefully decorated in fine Regency-style, and furnished with all the luxuries of a five star resort. They also all benefit from beautiful garden or panoramic sea views. Given the level of service, which is exceptional, we wager that anyone who stays here will also feel like Royalty or dare we say, James Bond. Now where is that Martini?

By Car (from the airport):
- At Arrivals follow signs for Centro, (City Centre).
- Turn right and follow 2ª Circular for 6.7 km
- Exit at the signs for the A5 Cascais/Crill
- Follow signs for Crill for 3.6 km
- Exit at the A5 / Cascais.
- Follow the A5 motorway for 18km.
- Exit at the signs for N6-8 Estoril/Alcoitao.
At the first roundabout, follow the Estoril signpost. Follow this until the second roundabout.
- Exit straight ahead and Drive down Avenida D. Nuno Álvares Pereira.
- Turn left into Avenida de Portugal and continue for 800 metres.
- At the small roundabout turn right to Avenida de Nice and continue for 200 metres.
- Turn right and drive for 20 metres. The hotel entrance is in front of you.
