An authentic and historic Campania residence
This really is a lovely part of the world, an unspoilt corner of Southern Italy, with the Palazzo Belmonte bordering the typical little fishing village of Santa Maria di Castellabate. The Palazzo started off life in the 17th century as a hunting lodge for the use of the Kings of Spain and Italy to hunt wild boar and shoot quail. It still retains all that regal grandeur of the past, such as the beautifully kept five-acre estate, thick walls (great to keep the summer heat away) high ceilings and general décor of the place. It also boasts a wonderful swimming pool, surrounded, as it is by a profusion of greenery, and its own private beach, no less. As for the rooms, the twenty or so suites and apartments are spread out amongst three wings of the main Palazzo and Eduardo’s house, which adjoins the main building. For the latter, accommodation is not so well positioned as in the main building, with some look out onto the public lane, but comfort is still the norm. We heartily recommend a stay at the main building with its vaulted ceilings and no guest should omit enjoying a meal at the open-air restaurant. It is terrific - very romantic with great views. It is also an excellent base from which to discover the many delights of this area. The magnificent Doric temples of Paestum are just 30 minutes away and the archaeological sites of Pompey, Herculaneum and Oplontis are within easy reach by car. Capri can also be reached by hydrofoil or ferry. |

Many interesting activities can be arranged through the Palazzo such as: hire of mountain bikes to explore the pine-wooded coastline, scuba diving to investigate submerged ruins and marine life, windsurfing, water-skiing, horse riding and tennis.
Boat trips and picnic lunches can be arranged to Punta Licosa, an extraordinary 6 km stretch of private, unspoilt coastline, ideal for snorkelling, delightful for a pleasant stroll amongst the eucalyptus and pines and a superb stretch for the enthusiastic jogger.
Not only has the surrounding Cilento National Park been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but the coastline and waters of Castellabate and Licosa were awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and environmental awareness in 1999.
With a rental car the Palazzo Belmonte it is also a superb choice as a hub for exploration; from here you can enjoy numerous half and full day trips:
Just 30 minutes away are the magnificent Doric Temples and museum at Paestum and the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Oplontis are within easy reach in just 1* hours.
The legendary Amalfi coast, with towns such as Vietri sul Mare, famous for its ceramics, Ravello, with its beautiful Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, and delightful Positano makes a very enjoyable day trip 1 * hours from Castellabate.
