A superb old world hotel right in the heart of Ascoli
Some say the Palazzo Guiderocchi is the only place to stay in Ascoli and adjectives to describe it usually include the words “beautiful”, “exceptional” “superb”, to name but a few. In reality they all do the place justice. Just the building in itself (once the abode of a local tyrant) is a monumental treasure of the city, a classic example of medieval Italian architecture. Then the location could not be bettered. Overlooking the Piazza Bonfine with its Saint Venanzio church built on the still visible ruins of an iconic temple, just walk out of its doors and you are bang in the heart of medieval Ascoli-Piceno, a jewel of a city which is not called the town of “hundred towers” for nothing. Inside the Palazzo Guiderocchi, everything smacks of old world Italian sumptuousness. Furnishings have been carefully thought out and placed in just the right places and, as expected of a luxurious place to stay, only quality period pieces have been used. Rooms also remain faithful to the palace’s Italianate style with its frescoes, fabrics, draperies and décor - without ever sacrificing anything in terms of modern amenities - so whilst you may feel as if sometimes staying in a medieval castle, with wooden beams and its own courtyard, you will not be precluded from wireless Internet access, for example. Truly a combination of the past and the future. Should you also stay at the Palazzo Guiderocchi during the summer season, you might even end up witnessing the Giostra della Quintana, a medieval sporting event in full costume. Also, don’t forget to try the hotel’s in-house restaurant which serves up excellent Italian cuisine.
