Lovely little Venice hotel with wonderful views of the canal

The Pensione La Calcina, which lies in the secluded and less well-known district of Dorsoduro, is not too far away from the Ponte dell’ Accademia. Simply put, its location on the Zattere, overlooking the vast Giudecca canal is just wonderful coming, as it does, with an unbeatable panoramic view of the said canal. This alone makes it one of the most enchanting places to stay we found in our travels to Venice. The pleasant and urbane owners of the Pensione La Calcina however, did not rest on their laurels and have renovated it with simple but well-chosen furnishings. Paintings, furniture and objects belonging to the family for generations have all been used to good effect, whilst culture is catered for by the classical music in the foyer and information on famous and less well known cultural activities throughout Venice. The intimate hall with its shadowy reading corners is an open invitation for afternoon tea. As for the bedrooms, these can be found on the first floor and all the cozy and comfortable, with their shiny wooden floors and spotless tiled bathrooms. They do differ in size, however. Given the layout of the house, some are actually quite small so, whenever possible we would advise one of the rooms with the delightful view over the Giudecca canal. All this with San Marco is just a fifteen-minute walk away.

FROM THE AIRPORT

Direct by water taxi. Time: about 35 minutes

Land taxi to Piazzale Roma and then from Piazzale Roma take public water bus number 51 or 61. Get off at the "Zattere" stop, turn right as you disembark and go straight for 150 meters.
Time: about 45 minutes

Blue ATVO Coach to Piazzale Roma and then from Piazzale Roma water bus Line 51 or 61. Get off at the "Zattere" stop, turn right as you disembark and go straight for 150 meters.
Time: about 1 hour.

“ALILAGUNA’ boat from the Airport to the "Zattere" stop (last stop).
Disembark, turn right, and go straight for about 100 meters.
Time: about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

FROM THE TRAIN STATION

Direct by water taxi. Time: about 20 minutes.

Public water bus number 51 or 61. Get off at the “Zatere” stop. Time: about 30 minutes.

Public water bus number 82. Get off at the “Accademia” stop. Go straight and then turn left. Time: about 40 minutes

FROM THE PARKING GARAGE IN PIAZZALE ROMA

The Piazzale roma parking garage is the closest parking place to Venice, but finding a free space can be difficult at times.
Since the vehicle must be left unlocked with keys inside, we strongly advise you not to leave any valuables in your car.

Direct by water taxi. Time: about 20 minutes.

Public water bus number 51 or 61. Get off at the “Zattere” stop. Time: about 30 minutes.

FROM THE TRONCHETTO PARKING GARAGE

The Tronchetto garage is the only one indicated on signs as you approach Venice by car. It is located a little farther away from Venice, but free spaces are easier to find.
Since the vehicle must be left unlocked with keys inside, we strongly advise you not to leave any valuables in your car.
