A trendy boutique hotel right in the middle of Tarifa

There is a growing movement in Spain towards the boutique hotel concept - accommodations that are low key and chic– and the La Sacristia, located in the old quarters of Tarifa, seems to fit this bill to perfection. Over the years it has been a stable, storehouse and bar but since Bosco Herrero and Miguel Arregui (designers by profession) acquired this 300-year-old building it has been transformed firmly with 21st century sensibilities in mind. The use of classy ethnic antiques and furniture throughout combines with open areas to ensure style and design are important elements of the overall experience. This atmosphere carries through to the 10 bedrooms, particularly the first-floor ones, which with their oriental inspired decoration convey both an uncluttered and exotic feel. One of the high points of a stay here will be surely taking breakfast in the inner courtyard with its ancient well and Andalusian arches. La Sacristia also doubles up as a fine shop selling a selection of items and clothes so it is literally a boutique hotel in more ways than one. Those looking to combine elegance with activities will be happy to know that Tarifa is one of the surf meccas of Spain. La Sacristia can arrange for windsurf instructors as well as horse rides on unspoilt beaches and riding excursions through wonderful nature parks. As a final note, we would mention that the La Sacristia’s location, though right in the heart of old Tarifa may lead to some noise.

ll Client Comments
Please feel free to send us your personal hotel review on this hotel. You may wonder why all the assessments we have on line are positive. Well, apart from the simple fact that we try to include only what we consider to be the best accommodations, there’s another important reason to bear in mind. Any hotel that receives 3 negative feedbacks is automatically taken out of our selection:

My husband and I stayed on the top floor of this hotel (no elevator) in February 2005 and thought it was wonderful. Enjoyed the rooftop view and the interior courtyard outside our room. Yes, it is in the heart of Tarifa and there was a festival in the square, but it quieted down by midnight and the streets were sparkling the next morning. The hotel was very clean with comfortable beds and tasteful decor with an emphasis on Buddhist, Arabic and Spanish cultures. Jewelry, clothing and furnishings are available for sale in the lobby, as well as food and drink. Very accommodating staff, lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance. The only negative is that because of the festival we were unable to drive up into the square and had to hike up a steep stairway from a parking lot approx 500 feet straight down the hill. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Great area to stay to visit smaller villages like Zahara, as well as see the coast of Africa and Gibraltar.
