The stimulating blend of nobility, architecture and nature all make this fabulous 16th century pousada a fine example of how to harmonise the traditional and the modern concepts of Portuguese architecture. The original structure of the building has been kept intact, whilst the interior was recreated in an uncluttered, up to date style, where blue and white predominate - in keeping with the décor of traditional Alentejo houses. The centrepiece, however, is surely the two large cloisters where guests can stroll at leisure on balmy days. The bedrooms located on the first floor are more than ample and look out onto these very cloisters. A word of advice - don’t forget to check out the beautiful church incorporated within the convent, a further fine example of Portuguese architecture. All this makes the pousada one of the lodgings par excellence in the whole of southern Portugal. In truth, though with the typical Alentejo landscape of rolling hills, olive trees and glistening white houses, beckoning en route, the visitors is likely to have his pulse racing well before arrival at the Pousada. A further plus is that the hotel is located close by to the picture postcard walled village of Arraiolos, famous not only for its cute looks but also for the hand made carpets produced there (to see some fine examples, just visit the town hall). For the sporty amongst you there is a swimming pool in the garden and tennis court. Canoeing, cycling and even hot air ballooning are also available.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Porto, take the A1 motorway in direction of Lisbon. Just before Lisbon take the new Vasco da Gama bridge (longest in Europe) and follow the A12 and eventually A2 in direction of Évora. Turn at the 2nd sign for Montemor-O-Novo. After this turn left at the crossing in direction of Arraiolos on the N4 road. Follow the signs to the Pousada Nossa Senhora de Assunção.
