A privileged accommodation from which to explore the beautiful Setubal peninsula
Lisbon is one of those fortunate cities able to boast a number of stunning locations within easy reach of the centre and one such location is the Arrábida Natural Park. Situated some 30 miles south of the capital, Arrábida makes for a spectacular landscape in anybody’s language.
What awaits the visitor are 500 metre high granite ridges rising out from the sea, lush green Mediterranean vegetation, sandy beaches, coves (some of which are can only be reached by boat) and a superb natural setting. It is within this context that the Quinta da Arrábida, once part of the Duke of Palmela’s estate, is found, making it a perfect base from which to explore this protected area.
Strictly speaking, The Quinta da Arrábida is in fact made up of two farmhouse conversions - the Casa do Forno and the smaller Casa do Pinheiro, discreetly set apart from each other in the same well kept gardens. The style is pure Portuguese, having been restored in the traditional manner with typical rugs, tiles, iron bedsteads and whitewashed walls. The gardens are equally splendid and fragrant whilst the swimming pool comes with fabulous views of the mountain.
Fine restaurants are within easy reach by car as are some of the best beaches of the region. |

| In the surroundings of Setúbal you should not miss to visit the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado and the Serra da Arrábida with it’s beautiful sites. They are many beautiful beaches nearby, as Portinho da Arrábida, Galápagos, Figueirinha and the beaches of Troia peninsula, Comporta. In Setúbal visit the 16th century cathedral (Igreja de Jesus) and the Castle of São Filipe. Also interesting the Museu do Arqueologia e Etnografia and the Roman ruins at Cetóbriga. |

The Quinta da Arrábida is located some 18 km from the city of Setúbal (roughly 20 minutes)
From Lisbon:
From the airport, head in direction of CENTRO DA CIDADE (City centre). As you leave the airport, you will come to a roundabout (Rotunda do Relógio). At this roundabout take the exit stating A12 SUL. Go straight ahead always following the A12 SUL – A12 SUL PONTE VASCO DA GAMA (Vasco da Gama bridge) indication until you get onto the bridge.
After crossing the bridge (one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe) take the exit indicating IC32 MONTIJO/BARREIRO. Once onto the IC32 follow staright ahead for roughly 17 kilometres until the exit indicating AZEITÃO/PALMELA/SESIMBRA.
You will come to a roundabout where you shall follow the indication AZEITÃO/PALMELA/. Right afterwards you will come to a second roundabout. Carry on until the road comes to a T Junction. Turn right here and follow the road until the traffic lights. You will arrive at a third roundabout and once there turn left. The road you are now on is the ESTRADA NACIONAL nº 10 heading in direction of Setubal.
A few kilometres later, and after passing a village called BREJOS, you will find an exit to the right indicating ARRÁBIDA/SESIMBRA which you should now follow. You are now on the E.N 396 road and after three crossings, you will come to a sign indicating ARRÁBIDA. At the 4th crossing turn left. A little further on you will come to another crossong again indicating ARRÁBIDA - turn left here. You’re almost there.
4 kilometres on you will arrive at a place with the sign indicating CASAIS DA SERRA by an old bus stop. The next house on the left has a little track and a sign indicating QUINTA DA ARRÁBIDA. At the end of this track, you will come to a gate. You have arrived at the main house of the Quinta da Arrábida.
You may also take the 25 de Abril bridge from central Lisbon. After you cross this bridge carry on the A2 motorway and leave at the MOITA BARREIRO exit. After passing the tolls, go immediately onto the right lane and take the first exit on the right following up a narrow road which will take you to a roundabout. At this roundabout turn back, in effect meaning you are on the same road back going in the opposite direction from wher you were coming. Pass a second roundabout and carry on until the end of the road as you come to a T junction. Turn right here and follow the road until the traffic lights. You will arrive at a third roundabout and once there turn left. The road you are now on is the ESTRADA NACIONAL nº 10 heading in direction of Setubal.

From the south:
Take the A2 motorway and exit at “BARREIRO-MONTIJO-MOITA/IC32/IC21. After you pass the toll booth head in direction of COINA. Eventually you will come to a roundabout where you should follow the indication of AZEITÃO/PALMELA. Immediately afterwards, you will come to a second roundabout. Carry on in front until you come to a T junction. Turn righjt here and follow the road until the traffic lights. You will arrive at a third roundabout and once there turn left. The road you are now on is the ESTRADA NACIONAL nº 10 heading in direction of Setubal.
