First-rate country hotel set in delightful gardens overlooking Funchal Bay

Set on a quiet hillside, within 19,00 square metres of luscious gardens, the Quinta da Bela Vista (beautiful view) is one of those places that fully lives up to its name, providing, as it does, picture postcard views of Funchal Bay, the sea and mountains. Driving down the narrow winding roads to get there, the first thing guests notice will probably be the sub-tropical gardens full of exotic specimens such as hibiscus, kapok and flowering creepers - a beautiful place to spend relaxing moments. But other strong points of this 19th century hotel (the original building dates back to 1844, although most rooms are situated in the newer annexe) include the refined taste and strong old world ambience throughout. Inside, the feeling is one of having entered an aristocratic private house, with well appointed original works of art, an eclectic collection of antiques and all those amenities of a seemingly bygone era, including open fireplaces, card room, library and billiards room. Perfect places to enjoy an after dinner port following an excellent meal in the a-la carte restaurant (highly recommended). Golf lovers will also be pleased to know there are two superb golf courses nearby with reduced green fees for Quinta da Bela Vista guests, whilst would be sailors can charter the Quinta’s own yacht and experience this beautiful island from the Atlantic.

Leaving Airport, please drive towards Funchal, after driving about 20 minutes you will find an exit to S.MARTINHO, getting out from fast road in S.Martinho turn left and at once you will find a big church, turn left again, then on the fourth road turn right, you will find a pink wall, that's where you will find Quinta da Bela Vista.
