A bucolic oasis in the Algarve
10 minutes away from Vilamoura there lies a little bucolic paradise in the shape of the “Red Onion” to give the Cebola Vermelha its English name. In many respects it is an apt description, for guests tend to cry out for more once they’ve experienced a stay here, though the name actually comes from the red onions grown there and the red fertile ground from which they sprout. This century old house is surrounded by some of the most peaceful landscapes the Algarve has to offer. The original lines of the house have been maintained, with red painted walls and spacious rooms mixing effortlessly Portuguese architecture with the sensibilities of Ard and Noor, the most hospitable Dutch couple who have turned the Cebola Vermelha into such a charming accommodation. Olive groves, centuries old trees and magnificent pool and garden simply invite guests to do… well, nothing. Though the Cebola Vermelha does not have a full restaurant as such, cuisine is an important part of a stay here. Breakfast includes various types of breads, croissants, home made marmalades, cheese, yogurts, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee or tea, etc, and on 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) guests can enjoy some of Ard’s excellent cooking using the best of local materials. It is also possible to have a light lunch by the pool or a sandwich. If the peace and quiet gets to much for you, then the sophisticated resort is only some 10 minutes away.

From Faro-airport to Quinta da Cebola Vermelha:
After the 1st roundabout with the white statues, you follow the sign:
N 125 - 10, Faro, A22. Now take the exit on your right which says: Loulé,
Potimaõ, Lisboa, now you are on the N125. Now follow the sign: Loulé, Portimaõ, Lisboa. At the end you follow on your left: Loulé, A22, Albufeira.
From Portimaõ, Lisboa to Quinta da Cebola Vermelha:
You will pass the football stadium on your right, than take the exit: A22,
Albufeira, Portimaõ, Lisboa. You are now driving on the IP1. Follow this road
till exit Boliqueime nr 11. now follow the sign Boliqueime N270. dont take the
exit Loulé but take the exit soon coming afther this one on your right, than
immediately to he left with the sign Campina. Follow this small road till you
see a red Quinta, on your right you will find the entrance in the corner.

Stayed here in June 2006. The description is very accurate and it is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable, the pool area is very nice (and very clean).
The owners are very friendly and helpful (do take their recommendations for local restaurants, you will not be disappointed), but do eat at the Quinta, the food is fantastic. Breakfast is superb and the evening meal even better.
If you want somewhere to relax and chill out, this is it.

We discovered a sparkling jewel in the central algarve, named quinta da Cebola Vermelha. The owners, a fascinating dutch expat couple, have meticulously crafted a stunning inn with the ambience of classic portuguese decor together with all the modern conveniences. the rooms are spacious, immaculate and beautifully decorated. guests have access to a large living room (with honor bar), attractively landscaped gardens and refreshing swimming pool. the accommodations alone are well worth an extended visit of a few days to explore the algarve. the location (4 minutes from exit 11 of the A22 expressway) makes for a superb base to enjoy daily side trips. THE FABULOUS FOOD, however, constitutes the true reason for staying at the quinta. Tthe owners are gourmet chefs, worthy of at least a star!! while the delicacies of their cozhina (kitchen) are available only on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays, the owners provide a virtual 'ZAGAT SURVEY' of area restaurants. last but not least, the quinta is a FUN place where you can join local residents for an early dinner before retiring to the quiet solitude of your room for a restful nights sleep and the anticipation of an alfresco breakfast (included in the reasonable rates).... best regards,
