A collection of wooden houses making for a beautiful mountain hideaway
The Quinta das Eiras started off as the personal refuge of the owner, Luis Gomes, a place to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city and breathe in the mountain air that surrounds it. Luis then realised he had something special on his hands and decided to open and extend this little bit of paradise to discerning guests. They will have much to thank him for, as the end result is a beautiful collection of some nine wooden houses built on stilts. These typical Madeira constructions are spread out over beautifully maintained grounds and accessible only by climbing a ladder, and this unusual layout is in itself part of what makes the place so much fun. Years of hard work, however, trying to provide a modern, yet pastoral, feel have also paid off handsomely. Exotic artifacts from the Orient, Africa and Pacific many of which were collected on the owner’s travels, are in plenty supply. All in all, the Quinta das Eiras makes the starting point for a perfectly relaxing day. It has even acquired a 14.5 metre long boat that guests may use to spend some time on the sea visiting some of the islands of the archipelago. If one can’t relax here, than surely one cannot relax anywhere.
Detailed description:
5 wooden houses for 2 persons: These houses are accessible by a ladder. They have a double bed, bathroom, kitchenette, heating, TV and DVD player and a small porch.
2 wooden houses for 4 personen: The bigger houses come with 2 double bedrooms, one bathroom, living-room, kitchenette, heating, TV, DVD and CD player and a small porch. They are accessed by a ladder.
The apartement for 2 persons is situated in the main building, where also the reception and some common rooms can be found. It consists of a double bedroom, bathroom, living-room, kitchenette, heating, TV, DVD player and a small porch.
The independent stone house sleeps 2 persons and has a bedroom with 2 beds (which can be joined on request), a bathroom, a living-room with wood oven, kitchenette, electric heating, TV and DVD player and a small porch. |

| From the airport: Go in direction of Funchal by motorway and after approx. 500 metres turn right, following the sign for Santo da Serra (Santo Antonio da Serra). Keep this direction, heading for Santo da Serra - Golf, pass the Golf and go ahead untill you come to the "Largo do Santo" next to the church. Pass the church keeping on the mainroad and turn the first left (there is a sign with a cow on it). Carry on downhill through a valley and uphill again; on top at the gates turn left. Go straight ahead and at the end you will go uphill bearing right. You will pass through huge trees and finally come to a small bridge where you see the wooden huts and a red house. Turn here and leave your car at the parking - you have arrived at the hotel Quinta das Eiras. |
