This superb estate dates back to 1739 and has been in the hands of the present owner’s family since 1872. São Carlos is situated in a noble suburb of the beautiful UNESCO world heritage city of Angra do Heroismo. The setting is idyllic, located as it is in a magnificent 8,000m2 garden with a beautiful swimming pool bordered by lush verdure. The architecture of the main building is typically 18th century Portuguese - pink washed walls, simple lines and windows - whilst the interior décor is notable for its classical ambience, period antique pieces, paintings and some oriental carpets. Rooms are simple and no thrills, yet elegant and comfortable. Anyone wishing to venture out from this charming environment will find plenty of local activities to indulge in such as golf, fishing, mountain climbing and sampling the local gastronomic delights. Certainly one of the most delightful and welcoming locations in the Azores.

World Heritage City
The straight streets of the city take visitors back to the atmosphere of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The central area is marked by the large, deep crater called Caldeira de Guilherme Moniz and by many craters with small lakes, while to the east there rises a volcanic cone with a broad crater, the Serra de Santa Barbara, which has the highest altitude in the island, 1,023 metres.
Angra do Heroísmo:
-\"Se\" Cathedral. Mother church of the Azores, is an impressing structure built at the end of the 16th century.
-\"Capitães-Generais\" Palace is the former Jesuit College that has been transformed into the residence of the Captain-General of Azores.
-São Sebastião Fort, a construction of Italian design built during the 16th century.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From the airport drive in the direction of Angra do Heroismo. In Angra take the ring road in direction of S. Mateus/S. Carlos. At the end of the ring road turn right in direction of S. Carlos – Terra Chã. Stay on this road until you see the Quinta de S. Carlos after approximately 1 km on the right hand side.
