Located in the historical centre of the Alentejo town of Portel, Refugio da Vila is somewhat different from the usual Alentejo accommodation in that it offers a totally refined ambience, rather then the simple farmhouse comforts usually associated with the area.

Not only is this a stylish hotel decorated in extremely good taste, it is also a wonderful place for lovers of good food and wine. It even has a well known cooking school under the auspices of the Master Chef Victor Mates. Here the visitor can savour regional cuisines and Portugal’s finest wines as well as learn about the art and history of regional cooking.

All in all a stay here is both a gastronomic and cultural experience. Burning away those calories, however, is not difficult. Visitors have a lot to see and explore, including excursions to medieval castles, artisan studios, wineries and pretty hilltop hamlets that all help make up the Alentejo experience. The beautiful city of Évora is also only some 30 minutes away by car.

ll	Tips & Getting There

From Faro:
Leaving the airport head in direction of "São Brás de Alportel" (N 2). In Estoi turn in direction to Albufeira - Lisbon on the highway IP1. Close to Albufeira turn right in direction of Lsbon and follow the street untill Ourique. Shortly after Ourique turn right onto the IP2 heading for Beja. In Beja take the IP2 in direction of Évora. After approx. 37 km you will reach Portel. Follow the signs "Hotel Rural" and "Refúgio da Vila" that will lead you to the hotel in the centre of Portel.
FROM LISBON:
Take highway A6 until Évora and IP2 towards Beja.
FROM SPAIN:
From Badajoz, take highway A6 to Évora and then IP2 towards Beja

First of all what was most special is the welcome and help we received during our 4-days stay. The hotel is beautiful, the decoration simple but very refined. The cooking class was fun and delicious.Our room , located in the main building, was extremely comfortable, vast, same beautiful design , private terrace with view on the hilltop castle. Excellent food, good choice of inexpensive and delicious local wines.
The price is a bargain for such accomodation and service.
